A little help with plant, light and room size mathematics? :P

Try and keep the ballast outside your growspace to minimize heat, I would have thought a 4" fan would be fine. I've got a 9" inline fan in a space 12' x 12' x 8' and the negative pressure is huge, very hard to shut the door.
With a little help from a few forum members I have decided to get a 6" and run it at lower speed

Any recommendations of brands etc would be much appreciated. I am looking for a quiet one, I'd rather get a quality one than a cheap one and regret it. I will check this Variac out along with a few others.

My local grow shop were really helpful too. They wouldn't sell me sh^t if I didn't necessarily need it, where as others would. Decent grow tips etc. Went back the other day..... CLOSED!

Bummer! It's hard enough to find someone you trust in the first place. Give Tim a ring at Growell in Bristol.

And no, I have NO association with company other than having been a customer and recieving first class help and advice.

Best of luck

Ok man thanks for that I will give them a ring if needed, but guess what... that closed shop of ours - they went on a short holiday! :3 They said they have been around for 9 years, no sign of stopping yet hehe ;)
