A look at CFL vs MH vs Dual HPS veg

Roughly 5x5^2 tent with 4x 125W cfl spread over 8 plants and lst.

The reason for the inquiry is mistakes were made. Lst was done too late and they got a little taller before hand. Cfl penetration was not ample enough for lower leaves and then the lower rate of photosynthesis lead to a N toxicity and stunted growth with some thin branches.

Never the less aside from error, I'm interested in comparisons and suggestions to the other two lighting systems and light sizes.

Are the above cfls good enough aside from error, etc.

CFL is supposed to be closer internodal spacing

My opinion is MH provides the best results. I usually will start the first two weeks with CFL though.

Using HPS will result in stretching a little bit.

I notice also when using HID (HPS or MH) the thickness and quality of the leaves seems to be better than CFL. I have not vegged 100% CFL though I don't know if anyone can confirm this.

Are you asking "Is 500 watts of CFL's enough to supply 25 sq. ft. of growing area with light?"? Then the answer is Hell no!.

Hps. I start with weaker light til the plants are a decent size, then I start introducing the hps raised high and lowered gradually so that when I start bloom they're already used to the light they're gonna grow under.

I read up a bit before the OP and that was the conclusion many others made, they were older posts, like 2013 etc so I figured something might have changed. Thnx.

HPS all day
A spare 600w hps ballast, what type of bulb would you recommend and how do you know for certain it's better than mh, if so, why so?.

That is the total space, not the entire space used. Fans, maintenance and heating etc.

Further question. 4x cfl do get hot but still need supplement heating due to air exchange, the thermo on heater is set to 21C and mostly is always on due to colder weather lately but temps rarely go above 75f. It's possible a hps or mh will remove the need for any heating at all so a 600W hps that I already have spare seems the best option. Minus the heaterW it will work out even on electric yet more light. But do you think it will get too hot with a 600hps?.

I'm using 3 x 125w actual watt CFL's at the minute at its done the job to get me 9 nice plant into the start of flowering ive actually had such good results that im just going to buy another 125w 2700k i already have 2 in there at the moment they are about 3 days into flower and just starting to show sex now so far 7 out of 9 females good results from bag seed ;) 10 seeds to 9 plants to 7 girls

I've only used HPS, but I can tell you from HPS lights you will get dense buds and more yield, mh are arguably just as good but tend to give you more trichomes on buds. It's all about what you prefer, I love dense buds and heavier yields lol

Can you get veg hps bulbs or only dual spec?. Further more, If I choosing to go with MH can you get 600W mh and would it work with the hps hood/ballast, I suspect not but worth the ask.
