a question about approaching the doctor...

ok. i smoke marijuana, obviously, but unlike most people i know, i use for medical purposes. i enjoy the high, but i dont use it JUST to get high.

i have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, and general anxiety disorder, and recently, i tend to flip out at pointless little things. my psychologist thinks i may have ADD, which i havent thought is bad enough to take medications for, but thats not important right now.

i am rather young, and i may come off to the psychiatrist i see regularly as just a young punk trying to get legal drugs, as i have had trouble with the law previously with marijuana. i used it medicinally then, and i do now. i plan on telling him this, but i still want some advice.

michigan(the state i live in) has recently legalized medical marijuana.

i want to talk to my psychiatrist and psychologist about using marijuana as a medicine. i always feel... rather... nasty when i take pills. i currently take 3 different pills, at 3 different times a day. i guess the most accurate way to describe it would be to say that i feel un-natural. i dont like this. when i use marijuana, i feel perfectly natural. EDIT: i also want to say that marijuana has been the most effective medicine i have tried. i will obviously bring this up with the doctor...

i want to talk to these doctors, but i do not want to come off as a young punk trying to score some legal dope, if you will. i want to use marijuana for medicine. i am here to ask for any advice on talking to these doctors and NOT coming off with a negative attitude. any(positive) contributions are GREATLY appreciated.

sorry for the long post, and thanks X2 if your still with me .

I live in Michigan too. I'm just gonna tell my Dr. that I need a perscription for pot to help me ease off of Oxycodone that he perscribes for my chronic back pain. I've been in trouble with the law over pot before too, a long time ago. Your Dr. is in the bussiness of helping people, it's their job. Sometimes they have to be reminded that they are there to help, not hinder. If my doctor decides he doen't want to help me, then I'm gonna find a new physician who will. It's that simple.
Here's a link with info concerning the new Michigan law.

I believe that you CAN get any doc to recommend cannabis, however most physicians are worried that they will lose their license. Michigan's law is so early, I doubt that any of the Cannabis doc have set up shop yet, but who knows.

I have the same issues with mental health, cannabis works great if I smoke enough! The psych meds are all garbage, unless you are homicidal, get off of them. I have never been the same since effexor, brain a little scrambled.

This crap is untested, it is a huge scam. My ex has been on them for 11 years, you don't get better, you get new drugs period. Once you have been on them it is near impossible to get off. Many (effexor for sure) are very addicting. I would know within hours if I had missed my dose because I felt an unnatural creepy high with vertigo. When I take them nothing. 6 weeks of this to ween off it.

Most docs are heavy into the culture of the pharm industry, just look around office, There is probably a clock, clipboard, or pens with the very meds you take advertised on them. Pretty young girls are the salespeople, and there must be other perks for a doc to give you something they know so little about and tell you with a straight face that it is not harmful and will help you. They are merely collecting data and trying stuff out...on you!!!

My bro had a blackout episode in his car in a parking lot (I think some crap dose was involved but they did not know this) He is on meds and gets SSI(nut check), they took his driver's license and left it to the shrink's descretion on when to return it. It has been about a year and he is just now getting it back. Kissing the freak shrinks ass, telling him the normal shit, and pretending to take the pills. Unfortunately he flushes them!! This crap is showing up in our tap water and in livers of fish!

Good luck and Good job Michigan!!!!!

If they are set up tell your shrink nothing! It is not his biz.

If they are giving recs. Get a copy of your records from the shrink. I think you can get a request form on-line, hand it to receptionist. They may charge small fee. It is your right to get a copy. take to Canna Doc and save a return trip.

Maybe you have a mental disorder, maybe you're just different and we've all labeled you off as out of society's "normal" tolerance; but one thing should be clear:

In any case of mental illness, you are the only one who can say what is having the best effect. Do what makes you comfortable and able to function normally and you'll probably turn out fine. Don't let anyone force-medicate you. Remember the whole anxiety disorder / depression medical disorder is kind of a new thing. I don't know you so of course I can't say with any certainty, but it doesn't always have to be a medical issue just because they say it is. It could also be the situation you're in and how you, personally, handle your lifestyle and living conditions.

Hayduke - I feel you on the effexor... I was on that years ago and f^cked me up worse. I have tried around 8 different anti-depressants, several mood stabalizers and other rx drugs in combination. The only thing that has consistantly worked for me is cannabis(side effects include, calm, hunger, sociable and able to relax). Your lucky your state legalized it. I am in a state, I doubt will anytime soon. It's sad when you know what works, but you are told it doesnt. I had this discusion with my Doc. He said even if it was legal he would not prescribe to me, because I use it also for recreational, but once I have gotten him to admit it helps me.

Yeah, I believe it is poison, all of it. I only tried Zoloft and then the Effexor, but my dose got pretty high on both of them. My Dr.'s office was full of items advertising Effexor (The clock, the sign in clipboard and pen and the note pad on the receptionists desk) A shrink had scribed the Zoloft...Guess what clock he had on the wall in his plush office? The clipboard also.
