A question about container size.

I'm about to grow some papaya from nirvana. I'm going to do 5 seeds in a 2x2x3 cabinet under 12 26w cfls. My plan is too grow them as bushy as possible with intensive lst, hoping to keep them short and maintain as much of the plant as close to the light as possible. My question here is whether or not you think a half gallon container will be an adequate pot for each plant. I plan on vegging for about a month before switching to flower.

imo thats not enough space for good root growth. I mean some people grow awesome plants in little 8 oz cups somehow, so you could probably do it but i would get bigger pots

what kind of light are you using in that cabinet? Think about maybe growing one plant, maybe in a 2 or 3 gallon container (if it will fit) and use the SCROG technique. It's definatley the best technique to maximize yield in a small place.

Yeah, Im with Kbo... But u should at least start two or three so u will at least wind up with one female, and just do one bigger plant, and top it, and pray it doesnt out grow the tiny space and up into your lights... But u should be able to tie it down if it becomes too tall... 12-26W Equiv. CFL's??? I dunno... I only use 'em for my young seedlings and clones, in paper dixie cups to get em started, after germ or cut... Then I go into 1 gal, three gal, and finally 5-gal buckets... I have alot more room tho, so itz kindof difficult to think of ways to keep the genie in itz bottle, so to speak... I like to let em get big, and knarley, and bushy, and all that, under massive HID lumens... The whole nine yards and all...

I would stick to one gallon for small plants. Also, think about ditching the cfls for 250w hps. Since you already pulling that much power, you might as well get the lumens to match.

Wow guys thanks for the quick replays. To kbo I really planned on Doing the scrog but I didn't by feminized seeds, and I dream of growing a plant horizontal from germination to maturity and taking several months to grow but without assurance of a female seed I'm not going in that direction on this grow. And I'm. It ready to buy a hps light yet. When I am a closet in my house will be my flowering chamber and this little cabinet will be the veg cab.

Well good luck and u need 3 gallon grow bags so u can cut them short and have plenty of room put some hydroton on top of soil so roots will use the top 1-2 inches. With this method u can get a 1.5 gallon growbag that only like 5-6 inches tall.

I have used similiar sized containers actually, I like to grow in the square buckets that ice cream comes in from walmart. They are like 1.25 gallons and only like 6x7 and like 6 inches tall.
