A question about foam collars and hydroton

Well I have heard that foam collars are better so I ordered them my seedlings roots began to get too big for the peat pellets I had them in and I didn't want them to get too big and break them when I transfered to the collars. Unfortunately I didn't have the collars yet and I went to my local hydro store and bought some hydroton. ( the collars I ordered were multi-colored and I figured better to have both) I transfered the seedlings into the hydroton but now they get slanted when I try to check ph or move them in anyway. It's a pain in the ass. I am wondering:
1. If I should just transfer to the foam collars now.( the roots are all over the place and long)
2. If I need to cut a good sized hole in the middle of the precut foam collars?(they are 2"x1/2", with an x cut in the middle)
3. If the stem will still be able to grow without cutting a hole in the collar?
4. If its even worth transferring?
5. Are the foam collars gonna be the best thing for me to use in the future?
thanks for looking btw my seedlings are 7,6, 4 days old

take a little of the hydroton off the top, carefully. then slip a collar on and into top of pot. no need to cut hole, you want support and it will expand.

Now that I fixed with the collars it's fine, but to change the water I had to remove the lid of the tub, which would move it. The slant is fine now you can see pics on my 1st auto grow in the autoflower section
