A suggestion for a light, what do you think?

Hi lads! I was thinking about buying this light for my plants and I am not sure it is a good idea in terms of costs, efficiency, number of plants to grow under one of these, and the rest of questions I might have in this crazy detailed and confusing importance and complexity of grow lights for these sensible plants... I will post the pictures from the online market for you all to see and the details of it and I hope I will understand better if it is a good idea or not. Would appreciate if going into lengthy details and opinions.

TECHNICAL DETAILS:

Number of illuminating sources: 169 (13x13)

Light type: LED

Material: Aluminum/ABS

Power: 70 W

Light type: Cold

Light flow: 2250 lumens

Dimension (cm): 35 x 35 / (inch) 13,7 x 13,7

PS: Every time I'm planning the setup of my little growhouse I get excited about the results. Help a lad chill the f out and start growing some goodies to make this world mellow, will you? Hehehehe

thats only a 70 watt light, well equal to 70wats of light. i wouldent botjher with it myself. for all the good it would do you, you could get away with one plant under a a 70watt sodium or metal halide and it would give you a much better return then that led one.
there ok for aDDING extra light to lower branches in a larger grow, but thats all.
well you can use it for a few seedlings is about all realy

Bottom line is with LED you need 40.3w Sq/ft of the best Diodes they make. Samsung/Osram. Anything less, and you will need more power.

If you use HID, you need 62.5w sq/ft for best results.

All these figures are for Optimum growth for any strain. The less power/light you deviate with, the slower they will grow, less area will be covered, and yield, and potency will go down.

The sun at the equator, on a sunny day is 125w+ Sq/ft. Add in high altitude, and you can see 40w-62w is not asking to much..

You also need really good airflow. Cant have stagnant air, and expect them to thrive. I also like to have a slight breeze on mine 24/7.

Genetics, Light, Airflow, and knowing how to Feed, and Water is all one needs to know to grow the best weed. Deviate, and the plants will suffer accordingly.

That light is only 100w, and they overestimate the power of the light. They say its good for a 2 x 2 -2.5-2.5 area
2 x 2 = 4 x 40.3 = 161.2w and must use the best of the best diodes.

If one uses the 40.3w sq/ft for a model as does Gavita, it is 1/3+ underpowered.

A 2 x 2 area needs 161w of light. 1/3 more.

for a 2.5 x 2.5 one needs 251.8w to get 40.3w sq/ft.

Id buy a 1000w HID/Hortilux, and blast a 4 x 4 area for the $$$$$.

Yeah but I was looking for something cheap n better than the blurples he was lookin at...for under 100$ seems like a good choice....I have the 1500 n its bright as f***

You cant go by how bright it looks. Penetration is what matters. And Umol.

A 1000w Hortilux/HID gives 1600umol for $300, or less.

I use both a Gavita 1700e-645w LED, and 1000w Hortilux for seedlings, and both are bright as fk.

That light is only 25w sq/ft in a 2 x 2 area. Is not powerful enough for a 2 x 2. Not if one wants 40w-sq/ft as is industry standard.

The Gavita 1700e is 645w x 1700 umol, and was designed to replace a 1000w HID on a 1 x 1 basis, and a 4 x 4 area.

So going by Gavitas research, and not mine, they came up with 40.3w-sq/ft x 1700umol. 100umol more than the best 1000w HID/Hortilux HPS.

Only downside to doing that is the extra equipment HID requires.

You can afford to buy equipment with the money you save buying the HID.

My Gavita cost $1300. A 1000w Hortilux HID with a hood, and ballast can be had for $300-$350. Or you can go cheap, and still grow a pound, or more in record time.

I get 28oz everytime with Super Silver Haze x 1000w Hortilux, and 14 plants, 3 weeks veg, in a 4 x 4 and 3 gallon pots/Promix BX. Dude could grow 1 crop, and grow more with the HID than he can in a year, or 2 with a low powered LED.

For on the cheap, a HID cant be beaten.

He could even use a 250w HPS in a 2 x 2 area. Thats 62.5w sq/ft.

HTG Supply 250w High Pressure Sodium Grow Light
$117.95

Includes Bulb Ballast, and Hood.

For short term with what used fixtures cost I'd go with a HPS/MH as long as a person buys a new bulb. But for someone who is planning on growing on a regular basis the LED will win through energy savings wouldn't it?

Yeah but like the farmeing fisherman said hid requires ducting and more steps to keep cool...that's what's always steered me away from high wattage hid lighting...I use a couple small 150watt hps lights bc they're no problem to keep cool and would love to have a couple 1000watters but it would be an ordeal to keep em proper n cool where with the led I can just hang n grow...
I notice a big difference in buds grown under just the little 150watters than the led lights I have so I would go all hid if I could build a room like I wanted too...but I rent so I cant go cutting holes in walls n do whatever it would take to blow a room out with hid lighting

I am looking into the CMH300s though n probably will be my next addition

Ive been using an HID since the came out in 1977. Id say Ive used them on a long term basis.. Almost 44 years worth.
A 250w HID doesnt put out much heat.

When you said Gavita I thought you were referring to their big LED fixture. :D
Not long ago I answered a add on CL where a person was moving and had some grow stuff he just wanted to be gone. Turned out he'd been a medical grower during his college years while studying to be a nurse. He gave me a bunch of stuff for free including a electronic ballast and air cooled hood with glass. He was happy to hand it down to someone who was continuing to grow. I gifted the hood and ballast to a friend who still likes to use HPS/MH but has started to dabble in LED. Gonna be curious to see how his last plant which was grown with a LED's compares to the one he last grew with a HPS. :weed:

I was.

I use the Gavita LED 645w 1700e, 1150w DE, and 1000w Hortilux HPS. Ive used them all from seedling-flowering. Talk about hot??? DE Gavita 1150w is a beast. Infrared is off the charts. Have to keep them 36-40in from canopy.

I was pointing out the 250w HPS doesnt get very hot at all. I dont use them though.
