About to start flowering - Considering LEDs for future grows.

I'm about to start flowering tonight, but having 2 HID Setups, my flowering room get's too hot if I my veg room is also running at the same time. So... considering LEDs for the veg room in the future.

These have sold very well = http://www.ebay.com/itm/Quad-band-450-LED-Grow-Light-Panel-Hydroponic-Plant-Lamp-Blue-Red-Orange-White-/300692534126

But I'm very Leary about them. they are cheap and not really sure how well they work. Anyone else tried these? Thinking about buying 2 sets for my veg room. The description seems legit, feedback is good...

Just trying to cool things down, it's either these or some HO T5 (8 Bulbs x 2') - which will be about the same price as two sets of the LEDs.

well, I left good feedback for my UFO as well, you have to leave it within month or two I think, can't remember to be honest although I've bought 20-30 things in past year from ebay. I don't think it reflects on the ability of the light to flower plants as much as it does the sellers description matching the item, good shipping time, ect. If i would have considered the specifics of LED and known how it would perform before the period I had to leave feed back, I would have said it still was 5 star sale, it meet its advertisement and performs fine for veg supplemental to CFL; little costly but that isn't a factor in rating the sale experience.

usually you have to spend an arm and a leg for the higher quality ones to get relatively decent yields, ive seen this cheapo UFO from ebay grow journal 20-25 grams wet, less then oz dried; 135w cheapo chinese version, 120$.

I know those aren't ufos and never tried that brand, pretty much sticking HID for now but thought i'd give you little heads up those feedback are 60 days or less required.

Good point. I didn't even think about that. Just saw the amount of sales and figured there must be something with these (word of mouth maybe..). I know nothing about LED setups other than they use way less electricity and hardly any heat.

Supposedly, the important specs as far as I know are:

Frequency50-60Hz
LED Qty225pcs
ColorRed, Blue, White and Orange
LumenRed: 7.3Lux x 77 LEDs
Blue: 4.8Lux x 47 LEDs
Orange: 7.1Lux x 77 LEDs
White: 7.5Lux x 24 LEDs

Wavelength(Red/Blue/Orange)Red: 660nm
Blue: 450nm
Orange: 630nm
LEDs Diameter5mm

Still considering the T5s over these. This is only for the summer, once the weather cools down I will go back to running my HID in the veg room.

Thanks for your input!

Wouldn't touch that panel with a 10 ft barge pole. If you're going to drop solid cash on an led panel you're looking at 200 minimum. If it's just for veg go the T5. I know of a couple of guys on Ebay selling LED panels that folks are getting good results from. If you REALLY want to go led i'll hook you up some links.

those panels are pretty much worthless. a ufo would do much better, these have 1 watt diodes you want 3 watts or more. the most important spec is that this panel combined is 14 watts, thats nothing. itll probably grow some basil or cilantro but thats about it.

i would only consider using that panel for clones maybe..... i would look at leds lights with 3watt leds with a good mix of light spectrum
reds blues.....there are lots of opinions and some scientific studies out there but in my world cost is a big driver
it really depends on grow area for what size shape wattage you should choose
I have 2 100w light house ufos and about 4 square feet

Hey everyone =) I've been following this thread because I'm really interested to find out if the LED's will work better or produce better results than a cfl. I found this on ebay and it's full spectrum with 3w bulbs. Any opinions ? http://www.ebay.com/itm/BestGROW-UFO-60x3W-Full-Spectrum-8Bands-LED-grow-light-Best-Color-combination-/111114992414?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19def83b1e
I found 135w ufo led relatively better then single cfl 23w, but I don't know how well a plant would bud under solo ufo compared to a single plant with 4-5 CFLs directly on it.... I think it would produce more with CFL then the ufo LED (being a few inches to a foot away).

That UFO you linked has money back garauntee anyway, so you can return no questions asked within 90 days. Thats a pretty decent amount of time to run it and see if it fits your desire or limited situation (heat ventilation/electricity ect).

OP.... Why not change your flowering room to come on at 9 pm, and off at 9 am...

Run your veg room on at 5 am [coldest part of day] over lap 4 hours…

Veg shuts off at 11 pm, so two hours over lap…

I changed my light cycles to this very schedule, and rooms went from high of 86-88 f

Now 82 is my high temp in either room…..

This would be a free change, the cost is nothing and save you [and the plants] a bunch of heat…

Good Luck…

i got in touch with the guy directly in china (he lists his contact info on ebay) and he tells me he sells quite a few of these to american growers. with the dimensions i can fit two of them in my box. my box is 18inches x 24inches by 5ft. led ufo light with shipping is 95 bucks. is that a decent deal ? i'm doing pretty good with the cfl and i dont have alot of money (im growing for persnal use)

There is an LED forum on here where you might find more answers. You can waste a lot of money if you don't know what you are buying.

not really decent deal, considering the yield probably will be limited compared to hps which sells at like 86$ without shipping for 150w, and 400w models at like 120-175ish range depending on brands and such. blackstar and area 51 lights would be more of a decent deal however their prices are ofcourse higher being their chipsets aren't as cheap as the average ebay ufo/led panel.

check https://www.rollitup.org/led-other-lighting/ to see other grows with LEDs, most of the relatively decent quality ones cost a bit, I got this 135w cheapo for 120 but the 50w blackstar ufo is 100$ish, just to give an idea of the scale in prices/quality difference.
