Ac tonnage question.

So I’ve moved spots and wanted to start growing in this spare room/somewhat of a basement-ish/ garage area that I have. The dimensions are a little weird.
The canopy area I have is approx: 10x8x6.5. (Low ceilings).
I was thinking about running 2 Higher end led lights. Possibly something like the hlg 550v2 or something similar. (Prob around 500-600w each light at Max?)
As far as running like a stand-alone unit, or a mini split, approx how many tons of ac do you think would be sufficient.. assume we are talking about ac for the lights and for weather? (The weather can get in 100-110 in the summers). I was thinking maybe a 1-2 ton ac, but not sure on how that works when working with leds.

It has a single exhaust for the hot air. Smell/co2 is not a concern. At least not the smell.
how could co2 be a concern?The room is directly below where I sleep, Soo... yeah... did I answer the question?

If you have co2 enrichment the AC would grab it and blow it outside.

Hard to say what you will need since I can't perceive how well insulated it is, how hot it would get in there on a summer day without any lights. You also want to have enough capacity to cool the heat from a dehumidifier, co2 generator...

I don't think you can find a portable much larger than 14,000 BTU/hr. Larger units need 240 volt power. 2 tons is 24,000 BTU/hr btw

Also remember that with the LED lighting you want a little warmer canopy temps, 83 - 86F.

If you can run some manual J calcs you could put a better finger on the needs, or just throw some tonnage at it lol. As to wattage, take all the watts you are using in the room (sans AC), include everything like dehu, fans, pumps and lights. Multiply that by 3.6 and thats a ballpark on how many btu/hr you will need to handle the heat generated by the electrical loads in the room.

I hesitate to guess, based on the description of the heat, it being a garage (those get hot) but also a basement (those stay cool)... I would think 2 tons should handle it, but 14,000 BTU/hr may handle it, I dunno.

Thanks man appreciate the info. I’ll put those numbers together and get back to you once I get this place cleaned out and set up!

Keep an eye on the temps while you are working in there, see how they do compared to the outside.

I just installed a senville 24000 mini split for my new led grow space and it was way easier then I thought it would be. Just watch some YouTube videos before hand to see what you need and how to do it

Hvacdirect.com I just bought a 12k btu Mitsubishi for $1400 shipped. They have a ebay store too. They have excellent customer service.
