Ok so im ordering a 4inch inline fan at 80cfm,i have built my own activated carbon filter following mightybudah's DIY one.but it does not have a cfm rating so will 80cfm be strong enough to push air through the activated carbon wrap?and have no backdraft into the growroom?

any info or answers on this would help, just curious before i start setting it up and would like to know since i don't.

Not knowing the size of your room, it's hard to give an answer. One thing I do know, that 80CFM fan is NOT going to give you much of a exhaust, especially if you restrict it with a carbon filter.

I am also just a newbie but I believe you want whatever fan you use to "pull" the air through your filter and not "push" air. Most fans are designed to pull...just my 2 cents worth. Good luck with your grow.

Based on those deminsions, your area is 24 cubic feet. Under "perfect" conditions, that fan should exchange your air 3+ times per minute. In theory, thats good. However, I would venture a guess that your fan would be lucky to pull 60 cfms and then the restriction drops it even further. My guess would be around 40 cfm's which only turns your air over 1.5 times a minute.

We haven't even discussed lighting yet and the heat associated with that. If it were me, I would give everything a go and keep a close watch on your temps. I have 2 of those same fans and I ended up using one in my veg area (smaller and different lighting than the flower room) and one in my curing area. They are more of a booster fan than a true exhaust fan. Good luck and let us know how it works out for ya.

Woah. You probably need somewhere around 170CFM to get you close to the cooling power you need with that light. Trust me. I just installed a nice setup from HTG and it didn't cost much (including the fan controller) and it has the ability to seriously vent my 78 cubic foot box.

Have not kicked on my 250w HPS yet, but i have 217W of CFL's in there with no problem. :)
