Activated Carbon

Has anyone ever experimented with activated carbon?
i am ready to strain my winterized butane. Would using activated carbon be a good or bad idea?
Would the solvent pull anything toxic? Would the carbon absorb any impurities or toxins?

seems pretty safe based on this info, so i went for it. The carbon hissed when I poured the frozen liquid over it. It seems to have been a good thing. There was some slight carbon dust that made it through the filter but I bet if you are more careful you cold avoid this. I just strained it again. Cooked product is very clean and smells amazing. Still need to let sit, scrape, and vac!!!

washing with activated carbon will help clean up any concentrate, although there will be a small % of loss of product to the carbon itself.
Tip; prewash your carbon with solvent to rid it of any dust. Then do your cleaning of extract :)

i would love to see before and after pics, this has only been brought up a few times that i could find on riu and elsewhere, all ended in failure. i have though about like a brita filter or something, but carbon filters clean everything out your grow room so i dont know what it would do, roor makes a carbon downstem seeming not to effect quality

We've had far better luck removing color using a non polar solvent and column chromatography. A column of cationic and anionic resin beads will strip out the polar elements, which are typically colored, and not leave behind fine residue.

The columns are then regenerated for reuse by simple flushing with a polar solvent.

Here is an after example after using a column being developed by NW Medical Growers and submitted for our test. It looks like they have the process down, and are now working on packaging.

So it still came out bomb! No carbon taste or weird smell. Very easy to handle. Here are pics of its different stages with the exception of the first scrape. Vacuumed, then balled, then vacuumed 6 hours @ 100 degrees F. End result is a hard waxy ball. So easy to dab!!!

Qwizoking,

im doing a 20g run this weekend and ill take some before and after pics. What would be best; before or after the freezer for the first picture? I can take a pic before the freezer otherwise it will be cloudy from the winterizing procedure after and I don't want to strain it twice and lose yield. Ill see what I feel like doing.

nice work man, you getting it, keep those heats niceee and low :]

can i take a poke at the question to qwizo?

ok thanks :]

1 picture of the trim alone, bone dry
1 picture of the sprayed bho along with fresh ethanol before freezer.
1 picture of the winterized foggy pics
1 picture of the filtered out wax :]

No worries. Consider it done. I should have the pics up by Sunday evening.

So...20g run of Cheese Dawg. I am not going to bother to post pics of the winterized cloudy jar because it was too frosty and there was not enough frozen wax/lipids to make a noticeable difference. They had all settled on the bottom and were not coming out in the photos. First pic is frozen material, pre winterized absolute, carbon(washed this time) strained absolute (don't see a big difference), vac muffin, vac muffin 2, med heat vac, low heat 12 hour vac honeycomb. Oil is kind of grainy. First time I've vac'd this long. I'm usually a 6 hour guy. After reading you guys go for days blows my mind. 20g flowers yielded me 2g wax. Not a high resin content at 10%.
