Aerogarden autoflower grow with no supplemental lighting!

I found a GREAT thread with tons of pictures where the person grew a single Lowryder 2 x AK47 (also known as Easyryder) plant in an Aerogarden pro 200 with no additional lighting and the only mod was adding a single airstone to the AG. They did use better 3-part nutrients and strongly advise against using the AG nutes also.

The plant looked GREAT and they got almost 2oz of dried high quality bud from harvest.

If all you want is a small and easy grow for personal use, apparently it is very easy to do! Everything I have read up until this claims you need a lot of extra light when using an AG, but apparently you don't? =)

I don't know if it's polite to link to other forums from this site, so I will refrain from linking it unless a MOD or somebody sais it's ok.

FYI and hopefully this will help someone...

Well yes and no. I will still be using additional lighting (because I had already bought it before I read that article). If I had read this thread before I had already bought the additional lighting though, I would have tried it without first. Also this grow was done with LR2 x AK47 seeds - not standard LR1. (My grow is using plain LR2 because I already have those seeds). I will also be enclosing my grow for reflection purposes - which the person in the linked thread also did not do (they just used a stock AG sitting on an open table, added one airstone and used better nutes). Edit: They also stress the importance of blowing a fan on your plant at all times.

Also please note: the specified AG tests were done with an AUTOFLOWERING strain (which only yield 1-2oz per plant) - I have heard many times from many sources that non-auto cannabis strains do NOT do well on stock AG lighting - even if the plant is quite small.

The assumption is that for some reason, these autoflowering strains need less light (less nutes also) for some reason (perhaps because their yield is genetically limited). I have never heard any credible report of one of these plants yielding more than 2oz no matter how much light they got - so maybe extra lighting is just wasted with autoflowering plants (just a guess)?

yeah auto flowering means that the plant flowers independently and will continue to do so without any extra lighting, however light does help a lot at least from my own experience. id suggest just going with the original lights but if you have extras its not a bad idea to try them out but id start off with just the AG lights on 24/0 for the first few weeks or so before adding the other lights and switching to 20/4 or 18/6 but 20/4 is probably best. also you have to remember that the easyryder generally is bigger and has almost double the yeild than the lowryder's because it was crossed with AK-47 and because of this some phenos are much much bigger some even grow to the size of a normal AK-47 which is extremely rare of course but can still happen. so possibly he got lucky and got a larger pheno or he just took really good care of it but do you happen to know how tall it was? and what was the wet weight? the only time ive grown easyryder i got 82.6g wet and i only got about an oz off of it dry and that thing was my baby i took amazingly good care of it but i wanted to try diesel ryder as well so i had to kill it :'( because i only have one AG and i am extremely limited in space as well as having to hide absolutely everything from my roommate. i havent ordered the diesel ryder yet because i don't have any free time to be growing but hopefully soon! Good luck with your grow

Peace
