Mission Accomplished.... Opium Wars aka Pill Frenzy against the West .... I remember the correlation between pain pills hitting the scene and the Afghan war... also once it was realized the Taliban wouldn't give up the REE sites around the country it was a wrap..... Congo same shit.... $24 Trillion in REE and there so many tribes protecting so much of the land its impossible to get atm....

Alot of American blood was shed in the name of a little country in the ME that is NUCLEAR SUPER POWER
With out separation of church and state you end up with religious zealots running the country or like russia a dictator who uses religion as his weapon.
Unfortunately, religion has always been used as a weapon. Period. Every country and damn near every time period in the last 500-1000 years.

One other possibility is "the state" becomes a substitute for religion. I mean that in the sense that the state is commonly seen as rightfully having powers no mere person has. Which is self contradicting on its face.

I am not advocating or disparaging people who have an imaginary friend(s) and practice some kind of religion. Some are dipshits and some are fine people.

Anyhow, government zealots have killed and persecuted more people lately than religious zealots. When they work in tandem, it gets even worse.

I can believe I’m agreeing with Rob but I do.

Religion was created to stabilize societies once people were smart enough to see that true freedom only leads to destruction and restraint is necessary for progression. Since there was no infrastructure in place to externally restrict harmful behaviors, they had to manufacture an internal restraint system; religion. Of course that only works if you "believe", which enough did, and eventually society progressed and prospered enough to the point that people could start implementing what they simply couldn't earlier; external restraints, which was necessary because real world restraints don't need to rely on something that's imaginary.

I don't believe that. It would have been way too organised. I think it's more likely that people were scared of the dark, and when the sun came up every morning, it was their 'God' or 'Lord' call it whatever you like but the sun gives everything, without it life cannot exist. From there, it wasn't too difficult to spin a Harry Potter-style story about "The son (SUN) of God" and so Christianity was born.

You wax poetic. Jesus was Essene. As was his cousin John. Deep, deep Torah people. Though a little narrow minded.
Israel, (Jerusalem), was looking for the Messiah to release them from the thumb of Rome. The rest is history prophesied.

It serves many purposes which developed over time. Once it claimed to have answers, people sought religion for every answer, which they developed over time as a result of these human queries. You'll notice there's a ton in place to protect itself. That kind of thing doesn't happen with the rough draft, they had to make things up to plug the holes as they went. They had hundreds of years to add everything in, manufacture heaven when people said they were scared to die, etc. My opinion is that it was created to serve the largest purpose first(societal structure) and the smaller things were added on in secondary.

I have the feeling the people left behind will be screwed, just not as publicly. People disappearing mysteriously. And women get grade five schooling once their household duties are done.

Has this not been the most predictable outcome ever? Something everybody saw coming 20 years ago. And I'll be honest, it couldn't happen fast enough. Anybody who wanted American forces to stay just feel that way because of pride and the refusal to admit that it was always the dumbest idea on the planet. The incredible stupid things I heard people saying for reasons, like women's rights. I'll be honest, I could give a rats ass about women's rights in Afganistan. They can't go to college? Boo-fcking-hoo. If they want their women to go to college let them handle it. Between Russia and America they "beat" the two great super-powers for almost 30 years because how are you supposed to beat sand and ignorance? Can't be done. Tell you what will work though. After a few decades of their shitty lives while they watch the rest of the world prosper they might put 2 and 2 together and get rid of the Taliban themselves and save us a few bucks.
I served over there fairly early and the women were quite at home with their culture. Hell, the women hated us being there more than the men did. That "womens rights" crap is just a way for bleeding heart politicians to keep the door open to future conflict. I did not like Trump. I like Sloppy Joe even less. But if they did one right thing it was pulling the plug on this hilarious waste of time and money. The feminists over here cry about how men treat them but believe me by and large they wouldn't have it any other way
