id say leave the glass on because the light is gonna generate heat in the room no matter what even if there is or isn't a fan running air through the hood.

Yes, leave the glass. I have an air cooled 400 MH reflector and I do not air cool it, I just left the glass on and it allows me to get it closer to the tops without burning them. It is nice to have the option to air cool it in the future if I want to.

I dont think you need to worry about fire hazard if you leave the glass on. I would remove the glass if it were me. I have both an air cooled tube and a regular hanging fixture that are both 400w HPS/MH Conv. The tube definately seems less penetrating/dimmer than the open bulb. Also, I would think that keeping it enclosed might shorten the life of the bulb due to it being hotter and not having much air flow.

Just my opinion DHH. I do think you will be fine leaving it with the glass on and open vent holes for "somewhat" of fresh air to cool/vent the bulb.
