Air Flow to the Root Zone?

Evening All,

Just wanted to throw a question out and see if anyone has had any experience with any type of forced air flow ( filtered of course ) into the root zone, to facilitate the wet/dry cycle that is beneficial for growth. Not really to dry the roots out completely, but to push a wee bit more air into the chamber for a short duration after the feeding cycle or perhaps a time delay till the middle of the feeding cycle and if it would have any benefits for the effort. I humbly appreciate any and all responces.

Peace and Big Buds for All !

Have you seen air-pots??? They dont force air in but allow the roots to obtain air from all around them instead of just the top and the holes at the bottom.

Check em out if you havent seen em

I use them and they help with the cycle of the roots and i feel they allow better air flow to the aerobic bacteria in my medium.

I pump fresh air to my root zone 24-7. My reservoir tank is air tight have a large air pump and ceramic stone in nutes air only can escape threw my net pots. Using 6x6 plastic fence post each is 54 inches long 3 plants per rail keeps humidity and fresh oxygen at very high levels. Plants love it

Thanx for the reply folks,
Yea superstoner1, I was deffinently into one of my overthinking modes (good sack this week :P) and will leave that thought be for now. I am ever thankful to the folks in and on this site, and due to this, along with a deep love for the plant itself, allowed me to get the lead out and grow my own. I am posting my first grow journal starting tonight, and I am happier than a pig in slop.

Peace and Big Buds for All!

why not just use a basket? air and light prune the upper roots that stick out. lower roots can be manually pruned or just left alone.

Damn rights, twice ive had probs with overwatering(in 30 years), first time was typical nube mistake ,second time was trying new tek with an LED grow...drill a hole in yer planter about 3/4 of the way down...slide in an airstine about half way in and seal the hole......its just that easy...the soil dried in about twenty hours ..it had been wet for 5 days or so....trus me it works and its good old boy tek....ive never tried it as a perminent application tho.....im gonna now ,and see......hope i helped.

Okay,

I think we have just a wee bit of confusion...lol

I am running a hydro system in 2- 8" pvc pipes and was going to actually duct a very small amount of filtered air into the root chamber at some type of interval. I was baked outa my gourd and reading about the wet/dry cycles and thier effects on the root mass. But thankfully, with the help of the fine folks here, I have curbed the thought for now.

I hope this clears things up a bit.

Peace and BIg Buds for All !

I run HP Aero and supplement air intake to the root pods. It comes on when the misters come on and it actually helps with my setup because it circulates the mist around the roots better. Any additional air to the roots in hydro is extremely beneficial as roots need oxygenation. Just don't overdo it and dry them out!! And make sure it is FILTERED fresh air intake...don't want to give em excessive co2!! I think you'll find that a little air will help your roots explode in size...just experiment with how much and how often.

When I ran my soil bushes back when, in half of my pots I added an "air sponge" to the bottom of the soil, I tried to place it like 2 inchs from the bottom. I got the idea from a person on here named Natmoon. They used this technique and actually grew in soil, in a large net basket. Gorgeous plants and huge yields. On the ones I did it seemed to really make a noticable differance. I wasn't running clones, or even all the same strain so it was not a side by side or anything, but the plants with the air sources seemed to grow faster and yield more. I stubled across this thread searching for that old thread actually, just thought I would share this.

Peace TC
