Air outlet positioning

Hello

All the grow setups I see have the outtake fan and carbon filter positioned near the ceiling of their grows. It would be advantageous for my setup if I were able to have mine on the floor in my grow tent. Are there any drawbacks to this and if so what are they?

I think people keep the filter up high because hot air rises and you want to move the heat out of the tent, they can trap a lot of heat in them. I didn't trust my tent to support that big ass filter and fan so what I did was stacked two 5 gallon buckets and put the filter on top of the buckets. It seems to help with the heat more than having it on the floor and if there is a big spill in there I won't have to worry about the filter and fan getting wet.

How about hanging the carbon filter up high and connecting it to the outtake on the floor? Would that significantly reduce the exchange?

i don't understand what your question is?
why do you want to reduce the exchange?
fans and filters serve two purposes. to remove odor, and to remove hot air.
hot air rises, so the air at the top of your tent is going to be hotter than the air at the bottom of your tent.
the only effective way to get rid of that hot air is to put the intake to your exhaust system where the hot air is.
it may not be advantageous to your set up, but physics and thermodynamics are what they are

the air goes in the carbon filter, so if that's up high it will absorb the hot air...since people usually connect the fan straight to the carbon filter my question now is if it's a big deal if there is 4-5feet of tubing between them..

Obviously it's not that I want to reduce the exchange, the thing is that my plants are already very restricted height wise and I really don't have the extra 1-2 feet. So it's a question of choosing one bad over another

ah, i see.
no, i have about 3 feet of hose between my filter and my light, then about 12 feet of hose between my light and the fan, then another 3 feet going from the fan to exhaust outlet, and it works just fine. just try not to put too many turns in it, the straighter you can make it the better

not sure how much room you have, i have my filter hanging back by the back of the tent, i can pull my light up as high as it will go and the filter doesn't get in the way
