air pump fail?

hi i was thinking of doing a bubblephonic system in buckets but was wondering what if the airpump fails? do i need to have a spare handy will the plants sufficate quikly? or will thay be ok for a day or so till i got a new pump? anyone had pump fail how long did they live for without air in water?

Ok, I was at petsmart and found they sold a pump that plugs into the wall. Not for power, because it's battery operated, but because it was there to detect power outages. So if your power goes out, the batter powered pump activates. It was 3.49 on sale. I almost bought ten. Normally they are like around 15.

Edit: to answer your question. Don't risk it. They will drown in the water without the air. you can stir it manually untill you get a pump maybe. that would be crazy talk though.

Yeah, if you are considering Deep Water Culture, it's an amazing system. Most pumps are reliable. Don't buy from wal-mart. theirs are noisy and died on me once. just one, but won't get them again. try the pet store. theirs are more reliable. they care about your pets more there. right?
