Air

Sure I have asked before but just got a harvest that I am not happy with. Have to be honest I am not sure if its me or
This harvest plants didn't smell really that much. If you touched them and smelt your fingers it smelt a bit sweet. Nothing like I've had in the past though with some other strains. I already was pretty sure during flower that there wasn't anything I'd run again. I had taken cuts just in case but I culled them as I just wasn't all that impressed.

I removed the fan leaves and hung the plants up. They was dry in 8 days, its summer here now in the UK. Hasn't been the hottest past two weeks though imo. I opened the Windows of the room the drying tent sits in. Just to try lower the temperature and keep the room cool as possible. Temperature probe was saying the inside the tent was sitting at 22degrees. Not perfect but like I say it is summer here. The humidity was always between 65-60%.

Now this is my questioning in regards to how I do things. I had the room Windows slightly open, to keep temps down. Doing so of course brings fresh air into the room where the tent is sitting. The plants are hanging inside a tent though so is no wind directly blowing on them. Nothing like having a fan facing them because they inside the tent. I know for certain the humidity didn't read below 60%. So if the fresh air isn't directly blowing at the plants and humidity from the air coming into the room didn't drop anything drastic. Is it fine to have the Windows slightly open to try keep the temps down? Way I see it, people use a.c. units to cool down temps and that's bringing fresh air into the room? During other times when I have been happy with the results I have also had the Windows slightly open.

So yeah what's your thoughts, could think Windows slightly open bring in too much fresh air? Even thought humidity stayed about 60% and plants inside the tent so no wind blowing directly on them. Or is it just a case of not being impressive plants? Like I say I wasn't impressed even during flower. Looked okay, was frosty but just lacked smell and didn't stand out as anything great.

I wasn't sure if the air coming into the room the tent is at was causing an issue. Like I say though, it wasn't blowing directly at the plants. As the plants are hanging up inside the tent behind the fabric of the tent wall. Also know humidity didn't drop below 60%. On top of that I have done the same thing always with the windows slightly open to keep the temperature low as possible in the past. There has been more than one time I have been happy with the results. Honestly wish I kept those strains around but I do enjoy being able to grow new strains.

These plants there was some frost but nothing amazing. Also was some smell but nothing like where you'd open the tent and be slapped in the face by it. I think I'm just gonna run the strains I have been happy with again tbh. Find the best out of them and keep it around. Tired of growing stuff for it to just be average smoke.

Some strains are just not very strong smelling. Great for discreet grows. But once you get used to that skunk punching you in the face, it does seem like a let down.

Is the quality sub-par as well? That's what really matters to me.

Grow better weed. There are no bad strains. Minerals and microbes.
Yes, there are bad strains. Grow me a frosty, stinky, 100% ruderalis and then I might believe you. Some strains are rugged; they can survive the harshest of conditions. But they just dont produce quality flowers under any conditions.

Google freakshow, thats a shite strain, looks like a furn and pretty much every purple strain sucks
Right, everything purple in this tent was literally not fit for consumption in my opinion. Worse than mexican brick weed full of seeds. Really pretty though. And smell was weak but good.

Yeah your right about strains not comparing to skunk when it comes to smell. Have run a skunk strain before and it proper blew me away. Was actually one the strains I run that I was happy with. A few cookie crosses have impressed me too. Not been as smelly as a skunk cross but it still had some stink to it and tasted lovely. Imagine is some shit cookie crosses though now the strains got popular and everyone rushing to bring their seeds out.

These plants just didn't stand out as special in anyway even in flower. I culled the cuts I'd taken even before the grow finished. I was just that unimpressed with it. It's not the worst smoke but it's just completely average and nothing you'd bother to run again.

I just wanted to know if the air coming into the room to keep the temperature down would effect things. I guess I answered that myself though because have done the same thing with grows I have been more than happy with. People use a.c. units which brings in fresh air and have no issues. I was just thinking would it leak through the fabric of the tent but then it's still not like blowing a fan directly at the buds. Plus I was sure to watch the humidity and had no issues there.

Just going to rerun strains I have been happy with. Stick with those breeders, when I decide to try something else. Got one of the breeders strains currently in veg and gonna give the tent a clean today and get everything potted up come the weekend.

Hey There, did the smells and potency not improve during the curing phase? Folks here are right that genetically some strains just smell more than others, but I've always found that weed smells a bit like freshly cut hay during the early drying phase and that those beautiful smells don't really come out until you start curing those buds through. I also find that its during curing that bud starts to get more potent in strength. In my early days before i realised the importance of a nice long cure I used to just dry my weed and I'd complain about the lack of a serious stink to people, not now though. This might not be your issue, but always one of the things I'll suggest to a grower in case it might be. Cheers

Things deffo always improve with the curing. I have had one or two strains that didn't seem that good but improved over time. I expect this bud will improve over time but trust me I just know it ain't anything to write home about. Like I say has been a few strains I've grown and just known it was something great. My own stupidity for not keeping any of them back. Was saying to my friend last night how I wish we had kept stuff around. He agreed and when I asked him to name the best stuff either or us have grown. Straight away he named the strains I had in mind. Fingers crossed the strain in veg is something good, run the breeders other strains and all 3 that I tried was impressive. Have also got another breeder who's got plenty of strains to keep me busy. Grown his stuff and not been disappointed with any of it. So yeah just gonna stick with what I know works type of thing.

No worries just thought I'd ask and now definitely sounds like it's strain related, some weeds just ain't as stinky as others, lol. I know what you're saying about wishing we hadn't let certain ladies go though, especially when you cant find another that compares. For me its always been law and space related, cant keep loads of Mums because legally not allowed to grow here and if found the Police would still say I'm growing for commercial use even though I know those mums aren't for flowering and for the most part I've never had enough space for a large separate mother room, sad times, lol.

Hey Joe, Just out of a matter of interest have you ever come across a really good Purple strain? Ive never grown out anything purple, have always held back from a Purple strain because most of the Purple stuff I've come across and smoked hasn't been the best to be honest. Best so far was a purple Pheno Gelato and it wasn't completely purple so not what I would really class as a purple strain. Thanks

Ive had strains that had some purple sugar leaves but the buds were all green that were good. Mass Medical has a couple purple strains (like purple all the way through the bud) out there that look like they might be potent enough to try but even they report them around 20% while their top strains are 27-33%

This was fast buds smoothie it was good for an auto.... By the time it was trimmed there was almost no purple left to it though.

Thanks Joe, the Quest for a Great Purple Strain continues I guess. I want some colours in my buds, but not at the expense of potency or flavour. Will have to grow out a few more purple strains and hope that I eventually come across a Winner.
