Thanks all for the reply about the size.

Ive come upon a new problem though..

I am having to water every other day and its becoming a real chore. Its a 30 minute trip(hour round trip plus watering time) out to where they are and the every other day waterings are putting a stress on my life at the moment. I am currently watering each 2 gallon pot with exactly 2 liters of water every other day and this just seems excessive. Honestly it takes less than 2 days for them to dry out but I cant make it there that often.

Does anyone have any tips on stretching the watering out? The temps stay right about 76 during lights on and 70ish off. Humidity is a bit low when I last checked so i filled a 10 gallon tote with water and hopefully it will start to evaporate and raise the humidity a bit but I dont expect much.

I just switched to 12/12 and they are really going to start drinking. If it gets real bad Ive considered sticking them and the whole airpot into a 5gallon bucket and back filling around the airpot to reduce transplant stress during flower.

Any other ideas would be appreciated :-)
If you would have told us that from the start mate we would have defo told you to use bigger pots, i would pot up the plants to the 5gallon mate but open up the airpot an do it.

Thanks guy. Yeah at that moment I didnt realize how much work they were going to be. I got some 5gals and the root ball fits perfect into them so this weekend I might try to repot them. I feel hesitant because I really like the airpot but it just might not make much sense for my situation.

Hopefully the airpot has served its purpose though and built a nice big rootball, there are definitely little white root tips trying to poke out of every wheres. :)

just my 2 cents.

i have a bunch of smart pots and decided to try the air pots. i have 15 of the .3 gallon and a 2.4 gallon! i hate them. fortunately, i ordered some sphagnam(?) moss to keep the soil/perlite mix from pouring out of the bottom. there was no way the soil was staying without something to hold it in.

i have some seedlings in party cups and others in the air pots. i underwatered the air pots at first. the plants weren't drooping or anthing, but they were dry. the clones in the air pots looked shitty next to the ones in party cups. like 2 totally different grows. i take responsibility for the look of the air pot plants, although other than the initial underwatering, i did nothing different for them than for the party cup plants.

watering the air pots takes much longer than watering the party cups! 2 or 3 pots might be fine but no way i'm doing 15 large ones. i put a bunch of soil into the 2.4 gallon to see if it was easier to water than the smaller ones! NOPE! pain in the ass! it takes me no time to water the smart pots. it will take me a long time to water that many air pots. i've read hundreds of posts about the air pots and one thing keeps coming up; it's a pain to water! i'm done with them!

i'm not even going to use the .3 pots next round. back too party cups or some 1/4 - 1/2 gallon smart pots!

How do roots that have been pruned by air fly out of the holes?
When they're transplanted into fresh soil there is no more "air pruning" effect in the smaller container, so the roots seek out new soil to grow into. It's not complicated.

I think you are giving an unfair review of the air pots. First of all its kind of obvious that it needs more watering in smaller containers. Try using drippers if you dont have the time to hand-water?

watering at first is slightly annoying, but once you get used to it its very easy.in the bigger pots i just make a ditch in the soil around the plants about a inch deep and a inch smaller than the diameter of the pot,so that when i pour the water in it stays in the ditch untill the water soaks into the soil.i dont need to water for 3 or sometimes 4 days each time, which is good because during flowering i can water once a week and feed once a week.airpots are probably not good for lazy ppl who have to hand water.

What size of air-pots do you guys recommend if you dont want bigger than 2-2.5 feet height on the plants? I was planning on doing a SoG with 6L (1.6 gallon?) air pots, but now I read some people recommend only 3L (.8 gallon) pots for SoG! I was thinking of doing 12/12 from start possibly 1-2 weeks of veg.

My setup is;
400w MH/HPS
90x90x160cm tent, DS90. (about 3 feet x 3 feet)
Golden Label Nutrients Coco A+B, Roots, MG & PK
Blumat Trumph drip-system

I am very thankful for any advice! I will probably go with 12 pots, 10 air-pots 6L and 2x 6.5L regular plastic to see if there's any difference.
What do you guys think? I already ordered the 6L pots but if the 3L pots are noticably better for 12/12 I will order them for my next grow. (What I mean is of course that if i get more yeild with the area filled with 3L instead of 6L pots, or if i would get the same yield per pot - but with smaller ones:) )

Mate i would go for 1ltr Airpots for a sog if youve got the drip-system, i use them for veg usaully but thought id try flowerin a plant in 1, i did a livers cut 1 in a 6ltr a-p and 1 in the 1ltr with a 3week veg and flowered for 9weeks got 52g off it. And that was with only hand waterin once a day the plant was gettin way to dry everyday an also i burnt the hell out of it cos i was givin it the same juice as its bigger sisters. so with the drip system maybe waterin 2-3 time a day (they take about 500ml to soak through with coco) an with not burnin the hell out of um i think they would perform well, the livers only grew to 14" tall an was only about 10" wide so i think theyd be sound with a sog ill get some pics of it up.

That's insane! Very good results with 1L pot there! I will place a order on some 1L or 3L for my next grow. I am feeling that there might be a faster way to get energy to the plant with the 3L root-mass, and I don't think it would be healthy to fill the area with 1L pots, or is there? I am guessing a lot of trimming has to be done if so.

And thanks for the advice regarding pebbles in the bottom, I think I will put some there myself. :)

Nice thread and pics !
I was rocking AP's before I switched to DWC in 12gal Igloo coolers.
When I go back to soilless growing it will most def be in the AP's.
I've grown in every container and the AP's were the best IMHO.
Have some pics I have to dig up.
I hit a few of ya'll with +REP and Likes bcuz you've been seriously killin it !!!

My morning started with a bowl of SR71 and me reading this ENTIRE thread !! lol

All depends on the size you want to grow um mate, i grow big plants so i use the 6ltrs and ive also had good results in 10ltrs if your goin for 3ft + plants id go for 6s or above any smaller an you could get away with smaller pots, also it depends how many times you want to water i have to hand water every day in flower with the 6s.

Yeah since I will use blumat passive drip system watering is not an issue as long as the probe fits. I think that 3L pots might be a better choice for me since I really do not want to grow trees, because I need the mobility if I have company in my home. I might just put the bottom higher up inside the pot to decrease volume a little bit, since my 6L is in the mail right now.

Lookin good there mate what size you in?..................how did them magic monkeys turn out? ive got a couple of those.
I got mine from the Qual Mountain spot over 2 yrs ago.
I believe the small are the 0.8gal
The large are equal to 3 or 3.5gal
Transplant was the simplest ever.
Unwrap the small and place into the larger.

The Monkey's were insane no doubt !
I made them myself.
I gifted a few out, but curious how you landed some.
