ak48 and smell...(drying question)

okay, i harvested some ak48 a couple months back and I thought the reason it didnt have a smell to it was because it stayed wet too long.

I had to cut off two cola's the other day, started drying them as follows:

dried in nets for 3 days, outside felt crispy, put them in jars for about a day till they were moist on the outside again. Placed back in the nets for 3-4 hours until crispy again, then back into the jars for a day. (repeat, repeat repeat)

and this stuff smells just like the other did, just so bland...no eye watering smell by any means. Am I doing something horribly wrong in my process listed above? Or is this about right?

(room temp averages 68F 30-50% RH I am drying in. Completely dark)

sounds like the beans you got were pretty shit in pheno and drifted way over to the ruderalis side of things...autoflower I presume?

This is interesting. I have an AK48 veging right now- first run. Nirvana feminized. What seeds do you have?

mine were nirvana ak48 non fem, the smell on the plant was great, i had the cherry pheno in one of them as well, shit smelled awesome

I am reading some stuff saying that its all about leaving more of the plant in tact so the oils come out into the buds from the stem? it'd be nice to hear from someone who has eye watering dank every harvest to comment on if they hang the whole plant up for the majority of the dry or if they cut it down.

I have been trimming while wet down into individual buds, not leaving much stem on them at all

i mean it makes sense and all, it seems like when you take clones and shit thats when my plants really seem to reek in veg, when you expose the inner stem and stuff. I'm going to try it and see, because my current smell is straight up crap

I think the whole curing was done too fast. you let too much moisture out too quick with your repeat to crispy method on the screen. you only want em crispy the first time maybe one more time right after that

Sweet, this had me worried;)

I'll slow down my drying, I probably over compensated BC it was too slow the first time.

Just a curious question about leaving the plant intact....couldnt I just stop watering it and let it dry out or do the roots need to come off prior to starting the dry out? (Sounds stupid I know, dunno if it does something trying to survive and drag out the process with everything still there)

Hanging some of my beast plants upside down would be a hell of a task

i had 2 pheno's of ak48 no fems, one was a huge sativa, large inter-node spacing, shit yield, but it had a very nice pineapple taste
the other pheno was a very small indica also low yield and also a nice flavour , hard to describe hash with a mix of something , it was nice
shame they were not practical to keep

i grew ak48 this year from nirvana and agree with alot of this.

mine smelled absolutely amazing on the plant

once dried it has very little scent, a sweet grape hay smell

but it is very potent stuff, a favorite among my smoking buddies

also a great yield, got a solid pound off the one plant that made it to harvest

I grow it all the time,it's all I grow. I get an amazingly strong smell from mid-veg till about 2 days after harvest, then it returns once they're about a week into the cure. They need triple bagging if I want to take a bit somewhere and even at that you can still somewhat smell them.

The high is tremendous too, real uppy almost trippy.

Perhaps the nay-sayers on here should look at their own growing technique if they got a bad result, cos AK48 is the bomb.

I would agree I grew ak-48 this year and the yield was awesome and the high was killer. On the plant the buds reaked like awesomeness and then once i started to cure them they smelled funny. The out of the jars and into baggies and it smelled like some really good shit again. I would grow them again next year for sure.

Ak 48 Outdoor

I've also had some stellar results from the 48. I've gotten 2 keepers from a 10 pack of seeds. Looks like you need to crack some more seeds and try to find a better pheno. Next time you chop some down try to let it all dry completely (until all stems snap) then jar it and burp accordingly. Sometimes I jar too early and the buds never get past that grassy hay smell.

i think this is what happened with my first bulky harvest, i let it dry about 2.5 days or so (roughly) outside got crispy but remoistened a great deal when i put it back into the jar. Even after 2 weeks of burping the stems werent snapping, still bend over. but some of the same stuff i left out on my table had an eye watering smell to it (after a week and a half just sitting there)

I dunno about you guys but my ak 48 was absolutely amazing nice short stout plant about 2-2 1/2 z a plant wonderful pungent exotic fruit smell great high & taste and well another keeper for me especially with its super fast flowering abilities. I did have a few that didn't sprout or really even respond but they did replace them for me when I said something about it. But the ones that did sprout were grrrreeeaat!

I always let mine dry out completely before I start the curing process, and when I get them in jars they start to regain the moisture from the center outward. I grew for a little while in a very dry arid area, and I would still let my plants dry for 5-7+ days before I started canning. Thats with a solid wet trim, and buds broken down completely.

yo im glad i read this because i had the same shit goin on with my purple afgani blush. They look amazing, smell amazing on plant, and are so sticky and crystaly, but once dryed to a stem snap then placed in curing jars. After about 2 weeks it smokes good and the high is good but it dosnt have amazing smell unless i bust it right up, should i jus leave it out in the air for a couple days?? my stems still bend for the most part to..

You wanna wait till they snap but not break clean, it should take 1-2 weeks, you want them to dry nice and slow then jar them.

It lets all the chlorophyll, starches and other complex carbs to break down properly. Too fast and they'll pop and spark and not burn properly (that most people claim is from not flushing).
