I'm glad he is dead but I am not comfortable with killing an American citizen for the things he said and believed. The facts aren't all clear yet but it's hard to show that he was much more than an ideological leader. Seems it would be difficult to class him as an enemy combatant.
My worry is that if the govt is allowed to kill Americans because it doesn't like their ideas or what they say, it's dangerous for all Americans. Govt's can be depended on to abuse and misuse any license they have

The issue is that he was an American citizen, whose execution was more or less ordered by Presidential fiat. There needs to be some kind of legal process the President has to go through before waxing an American citizen (or any civilian). At least have a trial in absentia.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that medieval fucker is dead, but the way he was killed raises concerns.

And the govt gets to choose the target. This is not about protecting Alwaki, its about protecting US citizens from the govt. It's a very dangerous thing to give a govt the power to kill its own citizens without some kind of due process. It worked out great in this case, but it's not hard to imagine a govt misusing this privilege with serious consequences.

It's not like "we practically killed an American" we did kill an American- at least thats there offical version, I only know what the media has reported on this case, so i'm not an expert but they say he was a US citizen and so was some other dirt ball he was with that they got also.
Here is the thing- If we are not fighting to uphold OUR system of justice and law and freedom and morality- then what are we fighting for?
They got this guy with out a trial as far as I know, and he wasn't given a chance to answer to any charges- and he was killed by a robot plane bombing him inside of another country.
If he has been shot and thrown in a ditch by some secret op and no one ever knew or they had "reports he was killed" that would be great- Illegal, yes but good for America- Thats what you get!
That's how we used to do things, when they had to go beyond the law they at least tried to keep it quiet.
This is about setting presedent- Horray we got that fucker!!! and no one questions the idea of using robots to execute people - or who could be next.
