i was looking at getting a 400hps systems with tent, fans, the whole works at around $1k. but i realized im mainly growing this for fun and learning and not so much for the weed. im not a heavy smoker at all. i dont need more than an ounce or two honestly. i just wanted to know what do you guys recommend i buy for this? i want high quality products, everything will be store bought because my DIY skills suck. how many plants post harvest would i need to get at least an ounce? i already got some fox farms ocean forest soil, the fox farms trio pack of nutrients and 4 2.5 liter square pots.

thanks

If all you wanted was a couple ounces, CFLs would do the trick.

I personally would go for as much as I could get in the amount of space I have. If you can fit an HID in their and properly vent it, I'd say go for it. :bigjoint:

thanks, do you have any threads in particular to look for? to be honest i dont mind spending the money, i just dont want to go overoard with it. for example, i was looking for a grow tent and saw the gl60 might be good. would this be tall enough for some decent sized plants? and they have they have lighitng systems available where i just use one single cfl as opposed to using 4 of them?

spend the money, it s not worth doing if its not worth smoking. that rig can pay for itself in a grow or 2

besides you will smoke more

dude it takes me like 3 months to finish a half ounce. my goal is to just continusly grow and learn. i dont want to end up with 4 ounces and half to wait a year to grow again. also, i dont want a shitload of huge equipment in my house. i want something thats easy to take down(and sell if i need to) its gonna go to waste if i grow more than 2 ounces. i might not even do more than 3 grows with it...who knows...

i was reading online about something with t5 lighting systems? are those good?

I have never ever met a man with too many bags :) You need to allow for the fact you need two separate spaces to keep it going all the time as well.

T5s are great for small cool grows, or veg chambers.

what i meant was grow, then harvest, then start an all new grow. im looking to for quality not so much quantity. what do you guys think, get a t5 lighting system or 250 hps? im thinking of also getting a growlab gl60 or secret dardin 60

If you are in a cool area and can ventilate it easily, I would go the HPS, otherwise the T5s will give you much less heat hassles.

Let's talk about watts. I know you want ounces so get a red spectrum 400 watt HPS/MH wit a ballast any use a small fan to cool it down a little if you can afford the whole tent then get the smallest grow tent you can find out there and it's just instructions after it arrives. So you know the T5? Look at it, it belongs in a cave or something if you expect it to come through your frunt door.:dunce: I would grow with something better than soil too. Altough I use the same stuff, it's just kinda for outdoors tho. I use a Hydro Farm Brand light. COol, Hot, they got them.

A 250W HPS would work great in that size of tent as long as you have proper ventilation. I've seen some great results with them.

That tent, light and ventilation along with some research and a little elbow grease will get you exactly what you want and more.

Just a note, do what feels comfortable. Don't accept someones advice if you don't feel good about it, whether it be right or not. You have all the time in the world to learn, don't rush it.

Oh yeah, and good luck. Keep us updated with what's going on...

guys... he said himself his DIY skills arent the best... HID is prolly not his best option ;)
go cfl, VOC AGRO is the brand u want.... 200w of cfl and a decent fan will get you a zip per plant even if your greenthumb is still a little yellow.

I wouldn't buy cfls.

If you want high quality stuff and be somewhat of a perfectionist, on a small scale, you need high quality gear. As you mentioned 400 watts, it is the perfect hobby grower wattage, imo. With 400, you get the penetrating power to grow lush plants. Expect to grow 3-4 nice bushy plants from seed.

Tents work ok, if you don't feel like building a cabinet. $1,000 invested wisely will net you a fine system...you can spend less if you're willing to apply some sweat equity.

Heat is an issue with 250+ watts without good fans, don't be cheap w the fans and use sealed reflectors and it sounds like you got everything else pretty much covered.

well, i bought a growlab gl60. the dimensions of it are 2x2x5.3. what would you guys use in it for a reflector? should a standard reflector fit in there?(super sun 2)? do i need one thats aircooled? the outside room temp in here is aroune 75%. i will also be using a 250w hps with lumitek ballast. i also bought a can-fan 9000 filter. i am also set on an exhaust fan(can-fan 4").

An air-cooled reflector would be best. Maybe a cool tube if you wanna pay for it. I have that same tent, but I only used CFLs in it.
