depression is a complex disease, for some people, ssri's seem to help, for a while
but there was a recent paper in the New England Journal of Medicine(by multiple experts)
concluded that ssri's are not useful in the long term management of moderate depression symptoms
severe depression, yes, but not the lesser forms
i have known a few people that did use ssri's for a number of years, they were not better as time went on, not at all

funny i've never read these articles ..... but I've had a GREAT interest in pharmaceuticals my whole life. I remember when certain drugs came out for different ailments I would be able to see right through them. I predicted drugs like Seroquel and Zyprexa would be on the receiving end of law suits due to their shitty side effects and long term affects .... Not that this is saying anything about me other than .... I shouldn't have dropped out of high school and tried to be a Pharmacist ( pill counter)

^^^ nothing wrong with an interest in pharmaceuticals, many of us will need to take something in the course of lives
i just want to be an educated consumer, some pharmaceuticals can be a nightmare if you blindly take what you're told to take
the old rule of thumb for Drs is to wait one year to prescribe a new drug to their patients(for those side effects that didn't show in the study)
and to wait 5 years before prescribing a new drug for a family member

No shit?! I've never heard that but it makes sense.... of course we can get into a discussion about how fucked up it is that pharma companies market and have their drugs approved by the FDA with very little study or information. obviously you pay attention to some detail but .. did you ever notice. All new drugs on the market haven't been tested on pregnant/nursing women and children? Yet i know more than a few cases where anti-psychotic drugs like seroquel and zyprexa along with benzo's such as clonazepam were prescribed during pregnancy.....lol blah blah i could go on for hours
If your ever interested in picking up a book on pharmies i'd suggest " Pills-a-go-go" by Jim Hogshire. It's basically a pop culture book with info on everything pills. From facts about pills to use among famous people, how to create your own valium, pharmacy, proper dosages to kill yourself..lol. It's a great fucking book and very informative.
The articles on diphenhydramine hcl (Benedryl, Tylenol PM, sleep aids..etc) is good info. while i'm going off the path... pharmas are benefical... at least ones that have been tested and proven. In the book it states asprin as a nutrient basically... a cure all for some ailments such as heart disease, ibs, ....like i said i could go on.... I'm not quite sure why i'm still posting..but ... I'm enjoying the discussion ..
as long as this thread keeps getting bumped up maybe someone can chime in on a good strain for panic/anxiety disorders

i personally believe the fda is not doing a tight enough job clearing medications, also the state of the pharmaceutical industry is atrocious in terms of greed. americas the only country where direct marketing of prescription medication is permitted. im all for free markets.
but i just dont think that u should be allowed to make decisions on medication on your own if u dont have any medical or biological knowledge.

ranting aside, indica indica indica!! beating the dead horse there
blue dream is really great for anxiety, but if ur on a budget, dinafem does good indicas - critical mass in particular. or afghan 13, also a strong indica, by dna.

im not too sure about actual clinical depression and cannabis, i struggle with SAD though in the winter and all strains help rofl.

the question the OP started off with went off the path ... but we were discussing some strains and onset was a factor. I suggested a heavy indica but the onset was waayy heavy! got any strains that help but aren't a heavy indica with a HEAVY onset. I'm curious for both him and i. I have a problem with weed that smacks you in the face after a toke.... even if it means relaxation is only 20 minutes away

I smoke bubblicious at night for restless leg syndrom. It works great for me. I have some anxiety and hypertension issues that it really helps with. My daytime smoke is either blue mystic or a white strain like ww and ice.

I was just snooping around Hempdepots catalog and found this (new) strain from TGA/Subcool:
Apollo-13 BX
Apollo-13 X Vortex
Representing thousands of hours of selective breeding we proudly offer our first back cross of Apollo-13. Pain staking care was taken in the male selection and the project to locate him took 60 plants and over a year of research. The high is instant and powerful yet also invigorating and inspirational. Most of my writing is inspired by the THC profile of Apollo-13 as it provides a boost of mental energy. Apollo-13 is so prized for its Red Bubble Hash that many growers dream of processing the entire plant into Hash.
Simply stated I feel this is the best Cannabis produced in Seed Form!

1) Phenotypes- The Dominant Variation is a mirror of the mother plant
2) Height- Tall thin Sativa Look
3) Yield- Medium yield very resinous and sticky
4) Indoor/Outdoor
5) Best Way to Grow- Easy to shape and train allows any style of growing
6) Harvest Window-55-60 Days
7) Sativa/ Indica 85/15
8) Hybrid- Apollo 13 is a cross between Genius and P75 (a precursor to C99).
9)High type-.The high is clear and cerebral, without a hint of paranoia
10) Taste is almost indescribable, like Rotting fruit, citrus, and baby poo with a hint of pepper

I have grown Reeferman's "Willie Nelson" and that would also fit the bill too.

Getting back to your original question.
I have become a huge fan of canna butter. This is plain butter stewed with bud and/or trim in a slow cooker for several hours. You strain off the liquid and let the butter solidify (in a fridge, etc) I take a small chunk about an hour before bed time and sleep very well now.
I have introduced many people to this product and all have loved it, mostly for the warm, fuzzy, extremly long lasting high (8 hrs +)
The cooking process converts any paranoia inducing cannabinoids to the more relaxing kind it seems as the last batch I made was with a Haze hybrid which when it was fresh gave me intense paranoia but a wonderfull high.

Mango x Northern Lights # 5 anxiety
Medicine Man Excellent for neuropathic pain. I've been told by some that this is another name for White Rhino....although it doesn't seem to have as 'active' a quality as I expected from this strain. More than any other strain, this cannabis creates a fogging mental haze that can be shaken off if necessary, but really helps with perception of pain. I give this a 10 out of 10 for pain control and general anti-anxiety/mood elevation, however, I'd save it for the night- it's not the most motivating thing in the world, although it is possible to become productive if you push yourself enough.
Nevles Haze is really good for psychiactric conditions, mood, and anxiety. I love Sensi-Star for it's ability to control muscle pain and nausea. It also has a wonderful aroma and taste to boot.
Nirvana northen light x big bud anxiety
Nirvana White Widow Found to be good for depression and lessens anxiety (again personal opinion here)
NL#5 Social Anxiety
Northern Lights Anxiety
NY Sour Diesel anxiety
OG Kush Social Anxiety
Purple Kush anxiety
Romulan Social Anxiety
Shiskaberry x Dutch Treat anxiety
Shiskaberry x Hash Plant Anxiety

Trainwreck Anti-anxiety. Muddled my thoughts a bit but not too much to be disturbing. Good painkiller. Slight heartrate elevation. Extreme munchee inducer.
Trainwreck Anxiety
Wakeford Anxiety

wow what an amazing list. i suffer from anxiety so this is really appreciated.
ive been sticking to blueberry strains for anxiety.
i have to say, i dont believe that ny sour diesel is anti anxiety. i would disagree with that one having tried a majority of those strains.

i did read the same thing with nl#5 and anxiety, i saw it mentioned with social anxiety
now i don't have social anxiety, mine pops up more when i'm by myself, when i have too much time to think
i have run nl#5 a couple of times, with different maturities
i found it ok, but it seems to have an edginess, even after long ripening
this applies to the highgrade-seeds version of nl#5, other vendors, who knows?

just posted on another thread, almost the same words describing white rhino from the list above. Specifically towards the sleepy, and pain reliever. Its an absolute k.o. sleepy time med, and relaxer, rarely made it through a movie. Great for the insomniac, and quite opposite of the effects of sativas. mid range in thc, high in cbd, cbn. proof in the pudding. Not for me though...:leaf:

good to know! ... exactly the info that I'm looking for... I think i said before, the onset is what kills me the most. Those first fifteen minutes I get edgy...
I don't suffer from social anxiety so much so maybe it's not for me??
You say your anxiety kicks in when your alone and thinking grow?? I get the same way alot of the time, but what is it that's bothersome?? for me i think about all kinds of shit ..but mostly when i get the way your describing I'm thinking about my own health .. ..analyze every difference, ailment, etc.
not trying to get too personal .. but you sound like you'd benefit from a clear, happy high. still on the search for that.....

wish i lived in a med state where i could get the specs on the cannabanoid content of strains i'm smoking or growing ..... It's a shame there isn't more science on ganja and different medical ailments. IOW having some strains lab tested on humans and the brain.. I'd be more than happy to be a test monkey

on nl#5, it's pretty good, but the first 15 minutes can be a bit edgy, sometimes
other times it hits just about right, so it was a worthwhile strain, just think there are better for my needs
clear happy high, i think we can all benefit from that, still looking, my low rate of growing makes it a slow search
