Allow me to introduce myself...

My name is HOOOVA... oh wait. Whats up guys, this is actually my first post on RIU.com... I'm endevouring on my first grow attempt... (second if you want to count the half assed, ill-informed attempt)... I'm testing my self with some bag seed (from some decent headies.), a 400w HPS w/Metal halide conversion bulb. I'm using a small storage closet in my bathroom. It's more or less a small crawl space. I have about 8 seedlings going at the moment, about 7 days in so far. (If i can round up a camera I'll post some pics).

I"m sure i'm going to have a slew of questions, but my most pressing one at the moment is this: Because we've had a recent cold spell in the NE, the roomies have put on the heat again. My temps were consistently 73 - 83 degrees before this. Since the heat has come on, the temps have stayed aroudn 79-86f. I generally keep the door to my grow room open because w the central heat + light +enclosed area, temps can get a bit warm. This morning, the door closed by itself when i woke up, and the temp was at 91(!!) F. I nearly shit myself.

I've read, and am continually reading, more info and advice given by you God-sends, and i'm starting to worry that the heat stress will hermy my plants or result in males. Any thoughts?

And once again, I'm happy to be here, hope you're happy to have me here, and just want to totally spell out my thanks in advance. So T-H-A-N-K-S.:joint::hump:

91 is a little hot. shouldn't really be over 85. you know that though. how about a hole in the ceiling to vent out heat? is your ballast outside the room? this will help lower heat. more fans?

Thanks for the welcome everyone

I thought about cutting a hole for the vent, but i'm thinking instead of doing that i may just switch to my bedroom closet. THere is a service access in the ceiling which allows access to the kitchen exhaust fan/duct. I'm having wild fantasies about tapping an exhaust into the kitchen exhaust duct work... only problem i forsee is air blowing into the kitchen exhaust.

Seems like it may require some interesting inline fan setups, but i think it would work. Thoughts?

also... could anyone tell me what kind and how much stress results in hermys? I've read that stress can also cause males... does stress cause a higher instance of males in a population? like 60:40 chances versus 50:50?
