Allow slight burns from CFLs?

so I keep my CFLs pretty close. typically about one inch from some stems. the thing is, sometimes they grow fast enough where i will look at the plant the next day, and some new growth has reached and is touching the CFL, which causes a burn.

is it more detrimental to burn the plant slightly, or is it more beneficial to have the CFLs closer to the entire plant?

anyone know if the stress caused by the burns outweighs the extra light that the plants receive by having the lights close?

any opinions? i think buds are going to start in the next few weeks and i dont want to be fucking up my plants by then.

a little burn wont hurt it much i run mine real close and it burns a little no major issues with it

i try to keep mine 2" away maybe 3" you have to allow 1" maybe 2 " cos a plant can grow this much over night.

As long as it's just a fan leaf or three, it is fine. Once in flower, don't burn the bud. Burning bud is bad, umkay; unless it's in a bowl or a J umkay.

After my first grow w/ CFLs, I taught a buddy how to grow w/ them. He burned the shit out of them (fan leafs) multiple times. Just harvested 2 weeks ago, and if the burn was detrimental I'm not sure I could have handled a plant that didn't get a few fan leafs abused.

cfl is great you should try to surround the plant with bulbs on the sides and the top but they can be 4 - 5 inches away from any leaves and you will still get awesome results...

cfl burn is acceptable to a point. it is much less acceptable during flower for obvious reasons. i keep my bulbs about 3" away from the girls.

this is my girl that was burned twice on the same size, like 2 nodes apart during veg.

essentially that 1/4 chunk never formed and my plant grew more triangular than square. it was actually better that way for a space-limited closet-grow scenario. as burned leaves or stems die, trim them and remove.

burning veg leaves and stems = ok. burning anything else = bad.

No need what-so-ever to keep em that close where they will get burned overnight. I keep mine 4-5" away and surround the space with em' to eliminate shadows. You will also more than likely heat stress the buds a bit keeping them that close as you go forward. Try to keep canopy temp around 80-85 tops

thanks for the input. yeah, i noticed one of my supplemental lights was about 3" from any leaves, yet they looked the healthiest. i think its perhaps too hot if they are 1-2" away, and burns can also happen.

i raised up my lights today, and added my first set of flowering nutes, so ill see what happens in the next few days :)

Yes keep em off a bit, you can tell if they are streatching. You can heat stress and stunt growth before burning so keep it cool and good luck.
