alternating nodes

can plants bud prior to the nodes begining to alternate?
i have a plant outside that was put out late, i am seeing preflowers but no node alternation.
will it finish in time as well?
put it out late, mid july.
standing 2 ft. tall now

preflowers can show a mnth after seedlings.. u can bud ur plant but its mor profitable after the alternate... with alternating nodes, buds will cover the whole stalk making bigger colas as not alternateing will have gaps up the stalk between nodes
 
You are seeing preflowers because of the light schedule now its harvest time for most crops.
If you would have vegged your plant before putting it out it would have grown with alternating nodes within a month or so and it would have showed maturity in veg.

When the nodes go split level it saying bud me I'm a big girl now
and if ya wait the rewards will be better but they always are when you veg for longer

yep, alternating nodes indicate maturity (think of them as starting to grow pubic hair, or a voice change). You can switch to a flower schedule anytime you want, just you will typically get more potency from more mature plants (to a point).
