Am I doing this right???

Hello again all, I joined recently to get some help with picking the right light for my tent. The overwhelming choice among most of you was to go with HLG Q board, which I did,I picked up the HLG 135W R Spec led kit. As you guys said putting it together wasn’t to hard. I have it hanging in a 2.5’x2’x5’ tent with Thug Pug Peanut Butter Breath and Crop Kings wedding Cake autoflower. I germinated the seeds and all is looking ok so far but I’m concerned about how the plants look and feel like I’m doing something wrong. They are growing in a mix of Coco Loco, Potting soil and perlite. They have only gotten ph’ed water sprayed on and little bit of cal mag. I’m not sure if the light is too intense or is the coco loco a hot medium??? Please help?

Sorry I forgot to mention, temps got up to 27c the last couple of days but I think I have that under control now, current temp is 23.4 and humidity is 53% and the light is approximately 2.5’ from the plants.

I dont treat my autos the same way i do my photos. And what i mean by this how i plant the seeds. My photos I germinate as you did. My Autos, I dont germinate, I plant them directly into a pot. If I go with a 5 gal as my final pot, i put the seed in 3 gal, and transplant before flower. If my final pot is a 3 gal, I put the seed into a 1 gal, and transplant before harvest. Reason being, Autos have an extremely strong tap root that i dont want to touch. This is why i go straight into soil. Autos are very picky and dont like to be mucked with. They dont offer the luxury of fixing problems like photos because their grow times are shorter. Its one of those, " you better get it right the first time " type of plant. Considering you are in coco, things just got a bit more complicated. Make sure you are feeding with every watering, use calmag as you already are, ph between 5.8-6. And never allow the soil to completely dry out. I use nutrients from the beginning, but in very small doses, and gradually increase as the plant grows. Temp stays at 75-80/RH 60-65% during veg, and consistent 75 with the RH at 50% during flower. This is what I do and my autos turn out fantastic everytime. I only use coco with autos because I have complete control of what I feed and when. My photos are only organic amendment grows, not much control there, and not as hands on. Hope this sheds at least a little bit of light.

Thank you for the reply, you confirmed a lot of what I was thinking. I wish I had that information about how to germinate the different seeds differently, my pots just showed up today so I will transfer them in the next few days. Do you think my lights are to strong or too bright at this time? I feel like the wedding cake looks like something is wrong?

2.5 inches is extremely close even for an adult plant. I would raise the light as high as it can go considering you only have 5 ft of vertical height to work with. And that might become a problem later when the plant goes through its stretch. Unless you start LST now. ( Low Stress Training )

sorry that’s 2.5 feet from the plant and I just picked up some wire to start lst

Oh ok, that’s better. Regardless, LST will be absolutely necessary. And no I don’t think the light will be an issue.
