Home Depot has 23 watt cfls and cheap lights that come with alluminum hoods... You can easily hang these lights if you take the hoods off... More of these lights evenly spaced out are better for your flowering plant than a larger cfl because cfls loose so much of their light in a matter of a foot or two.

I have found that at $10 a pop the 32 watt cfls are not worth it...

You can get a 4 pack of 23 watt cfls for $8
Light sockets with 6' cord for 2 x $3 = $6
Socket spliter 2 x $1 = $2

Meaning you could get 4 - 23 watt cfls for a total of $16, less than the cost of 2 32 watt bulbs...

Not to mention
4 x 23 = 92 total watts
2 x 32 = 64 total watts

You are also able to cover the plant more evenly and get the lights closer to the budding sites with 4 light bulbs instead of 2...

Right now I am 7 weeks into flowering using only 23 watt cfls...
I have 10 x 23 = 230 watts of cfls producing

6 x 1750 = 10,500 lumens (soft white cfls)
4 x 1600 = 6,400 lumens (daylight cfls)

For a total of almost 17,000 lumens, which is apparently adequate for my one flowering lady...
She is about 2 feet tall, 24 inches, with the ten 23 watt cfls all around her from top to bottom.

Is my thinking correct, in any case, my first grow has been a success, and I know if I was going to grow more than one plant at a time it would definitely be worth it to invest in an HID or HPS lighting system.

Has anyone else tried to grow with only 23 watt cfls here?

Thats a 150 watt HPS, fixture and bulb for $20???

If I ordered this, what else do I need to buy before it will be working?

You'll need an extension cord (3 prongs - 1 is ground), electric tape, and wire nuts. With a little know how you can set this up yourself. It is $20 + shipping. My total was $30.
