Am I on the right track?

I am new to growing and would like to know if my setup will be ok. So I have a 2 by 3 foot flat white closet with three seedlings setup in it. I have one 42 watt and four 23 watt CFL's hanging over the babies. Two out of the three have sprouted about 1 1/5 inches and are looking good so far and the other is on its way up. I just wanted to make sure I had enough light to continue and if anyone can give me any other tips that help for your personal plants.

That's plenty of light for now. Lights should be 6500K (bright daylight spectrum). You will need a lot more light down the line.

Get a fan blowing lightly on the plants. Oscillating is great.

How are you going to handle odor later on?

PH everything you feed the plant.

If you post some pics we may be able to offer up more...

Thank you for all the help!

So when should I add more light and how much do you recommend I add?

I plan on having a fan in there by the end of the week..I just didnt know if I put on in now would it be too early for that.

The odor doesn't matter too much for I live in a house alone.

I will get litmus paper asap

Here are some pics. I know it may look make-shift compared to yall professionals but i am working on a budget with what i have in the space have...But that being said, any other advise you can give me on how I can make it more effective would be more than greatly appreciated!image.jpegphoto.JPG

Just about every new grower has or had a set-up similar to yours. Six months from now, you'll have so much growing stuff you'll wonder what the hell happened. It's call "the growing bug" and it's hard to stop once you've started.

A few suggestions to prevent you from making the same mistakes I and one million others have done when first starting growing.

1. You will want to water your plant just about every time you look at them. Don't. Not only do roots need water....they need air too. Saturate your soil, and give 'em a few days and repeat.

2. You will get informational over-load on here. Keep it simple. Between you and the plant, the plant's the smarter one about growing. It's your job not to kill it.

3. Don't give your plant nutrients for about a month, and only give 1/4 to 1/2 the recommended dosage, and then wait a few weeks before giving more.

4. Regardless of what you'll read here and elsewhere, keep all the leaves on the plant. They are the solar panels and lungs of the plant. You can learn more from watching how a plant grows on it's own the first grow, and down the road you can adjust your growing technique as you see fit.

5. Did I mention keep it simple yet?

6. Don't over analyze your grow. Sit back and enjoy what it's doing. You will want to transplant your seedlings into something bigger in about a month. If room allows, I suggest a 5 gallon container with holes at the bottom.

7. If and when you go to a hydro-store (you really don't have to), don't buy into the hype and sales pitch they'll give you. Most of what's out there is snake oil.

8. Craiglist should be your place to look first for growing equipment.

9. And finally.....keep it simple.

image.jpeg Ahh there we go...you need to put those lights closer, like 2 inches away...and like dad said put a fan blowing lightly on them...and not all of us are pros...I started just like that with 3 26w 6500k CFLs..I had the ghetto grow of the month when I started :hump: 01-25-2013.jpg

Oh.....and about the PH thingy.....unless you're growing hydroponically.....there's absolutely no need to check your PH (I'll get shit for this I'm sure). Think about it.....you water your lawn and gardens with a hose.....do you see either going nuts because your water's PH is 8.4? PH is over-rated. Hell, put a glass out side during a rain storm and check the PH of that.....I'm betting it's nowhere near "perfect".

Thanks a lot

Of course this being my first grow I've been reading and watching everything I can get my hands on and researching all the questions I have but I came to the same conclusion myself; I need to keep it as simple and basic as I can so I can learn what I can tweak later. I've been trying to keep it as relaxed as possible and making sure I dont do something unfortunate like over water.

I will deff look into Craigslist. I didnt even think about that. thank you.
and thanks for the transplant and nutrients info. i had those questions in the back of my head but wasnt worrying about them yet because i knew it wasn't around that time yet and the plants just needed to "do what they do" first.

I've already got the "growing bug", I'm already excited for my next bigger grow, haha...but let me get this one down first.

Thanks again.
