Labor economists disagree. Amazon needs to hire 100,000 workers for their holiday season. They have to do this in an extremely tight labor market where unemployment just dropped below 4%. Wage hikes like this one have historically occurred in similar economies.
“We have a tight labor market, and these are tough jobs with high turnover rates,” said Sylvia Allegretto, a labor economist at the University of California at Berkeley. “You add in that Amazon is competing for workers, and it makes sense that it is raising wages.”

His campaign actually tried to gain some positive press of the fact that they were the only campaign paying interns. They paid $10.10 at that time.
