Might be difficult considering they are mostly all dead. pretty sure they were talking about people and not government though. Why don't you talk to the great minds that generated these quotes? You might learn something.
Ok NoDrama! I can consider you a virtual neighbor, please loan me $500. I will send you my address and an IOU in the arrangment. When shall I expect the check?I bet for every murdered neighbor there are 100 cups of sugar being borrowed. Even in your little shit-hole neck of the woods. You can point out that bad things happen but that does not make them the rule, only the exception. People are more willing to help a stranger than you think and even more willing to lend a helping hand if only given the chance.
Sounds good to me, send me a IM. We can only do $499.99 though. I will give you the extra penny out of the goodness of my heart.Ok NoDrama! I can consider you a virtual neighbor, please loan me $500. I will send you my address and an IOU in the arrangment. When shall I expect the check?
That has to be the most ignorant post I've ever read. Seriously.

Pretty sure the words society, nation, civilization, and America refer to governments not people. If you (like I suggested) read up on the authors of these quotes you would know they are referring to governments. Our society must make it right and possible for old people not to fear the young or be deserted by them, for the test of a civilization is the way that it cares for its helpless members.~Pearl S. Buck (1892-1973), My Several Worlds [1954].
The test of the morality of a society is what it does for its children.
~Dietrich Bonhoeffer
A decent provision for the poor is the true test of civilization.
~Samuel Johnson, Boswell: Life of Johnson
The most certain test by which we judge whether a country is really free is the amount of security enjoyed by minorities.~John E. E. Dalberg, Lord Acton, The History of Freedom in Antiquity, [1877].
"...the moral test of government is how that government treats those who are in the dawn of life, the children; those who are in the twilight of life, the elderly; those who are in the shadows of life; the sick, the needy and the handicapped. " ~ Last Speech of Hubert H. Humphrey
"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Ghandi
"Any society, any nation, is judged on the basis of how it treats its weakest members -- the last, the least, the littlest."
~Cardinal Roger Mahony, In a 1998 letter, Creating a Culture of Life
The greatness of America is in how it treats its weakest members: the elderly, the infirm, the handicapped, the underprivileged, the unborn. ~Bill Federer
Dude. Still ignorant.lol dude it was a joke
No, they refer to people not governments. So when I call you an American I am calling you a government? Society is government not people? A nation has nothing to do with people only government? I don't think you know the definitions of these words so here is a primer.

Very well reasoned and well put NoDrama. No, they refer to people not governments. So when I call you an American I am calling you a government? Society is government not people? A nation has nothing to do with people only government? I don't think you know the definitions of these words so here is a primer.
Those Authors were intelligent enough to use a word that means Government if they intended to say such.
so·ci·e·ty/səˈsīətē/
Noun:
- The aggregate of people living together in a more or less ordered community.
- The community of people living in a particular region and having shared customs, laws, and organizations.
na·tion/ˈnāSHən/
Noun:
- A large aggregate of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory.
civ·i·li·za·tion/ˌsivələˈzāSHən/
Noun:
- The most advanced stage of human social development and organization.
- The process by which a society or place reaches this stage.
a·mer·i·ca/əˈmerikə/
Hey Carne? Notice how NONE of those definitions mentions the word "Government"? The only thing I could even find that had the Government word in it was "Country"
- A landmass in the western hemisphere that consists of the continents of North and South America joined by the Isthmus of Panama.
- Used as a name for the United States.
coun·try/ˈkəntrē/
But it does not refer to government, it refers to people or the nation.
Noun:
- A nation with its own government, occupying a particular territory.
- The people of a nation.
Words really do have meaning.
Have a nice day.
