Sounds like Cold War American foreign policy. "At least they're our dictators," an aide informed John F. Kennedy.https://theintercept.com/2017/05/02/trumps-support-and-praise-of-despots-is-central-to-the-u-s-tradition-not-a-deviation-from-it/
The truth is we are supporting monsters around the world, even to the point of overthrowing democratically elected governments.
The idea that we are the world's policeman, helping democracies emerge around the world is a complete fiction. The list of murderous despots we have and continue to press cheeks with is embarrassingly long.
Letting the monied elite run our political system is how we became the imperial power we are now rightly perceived to be around the world.
Our founding fathers lectured us sternly against allowing this to happen, but we've ignored them.
I know it's a bitter pill to swallow, but it's time to see the truth of the kind of country America has become.
Discuss.
Schools are funded differently throughout the states. State level funds only make up a portion of the total funds a school district receives. Other areas of taxation support school districts, such as property taxes (and in wealthier communities, this is the preferred method of local funding), sales taxes, tourism taxes, and specifically local school bonds.how so? where i went to high school, we had zipcodes that were extremely wealthy and some dirt poor yet the school itself was one of the top in the state. everybody got the benefit of being a public school funded thru tax dollars.
i can see your point in some aspects where rich people might donate more than poor to a police dept and i guarantee that the response times would be a bit quicker in the richer neighborhoods. that's not a function of socialism, that's reality.
Our policy never changed, that's the point I'm making.Sounds like Cold War American foreign policy. "At least they're our dictators," an aide informed John F. Kennedy.
Especially when your told about it prior and don't do a thing.Nah, I read in the paper (one of those little "what do you think?" pieces where they print your picture and up to 100 characters) that "America is just flexing it's muscles because we have gotten a little flabby." If you stop propping up dictators, you lose that ability and won't be able to prop them up when you really need one.
Of course, terrorism makes it far more complicated. A lot of people look back on the Cold Wart as 'when America was great'. There really was no standard as far as how bad a hombre a dictator had to be as long as they were willing to fight communism or anything resembling it. Now we do the same as long as they are not funding terrorism. We really should have known - did know, in fact - that this was coming. All those Cold War dictators suppressed Islam as much as they could. Shit was going to happen and will continue to happen - but maybe we should not have been the only ones with our finger in the dike. That's what a few planes crashing into a few buildings gets you.
