The alternative to marijuana's alternative is already hitting stores in northeast Kansas.
"K2 is over. This is the next best thing," said Said Haider, whose convenience store sells Sky.
It's called Sky and its distributors claim that it's 100 percent herbal, which makes it 100 percent legal. They also claim it doesn't contain any banned chemical compounds.
"I don't know exactly what's in it, but I know what they've (Sky Herbal Blends LLC.) told me," Haider said.
Sky Herbal Blends LLC., distributes Sky in Topeka and Lawrence. The company declined to release the products exact ingredients but claim that its herbs have been used for hundreds of years and are safe for users.
"It does make them feel good," Haider said. "They like how it feels. They like how it tastes." Haider said.
From Lightening to Rain to Tsunami, the sky's the limit on Sky's flavors.
The sky is also the limit on just how much information is yet to be found out about Sky.
"It's fairly new to me. Today would be the first time that I've heard of it," Sgt. Lance Feyh with the Topeka Police Department said.
However, authorities in St. Charles County Missouri have not only heard about sky they've also tested it. According to authorities there, the samples they tested did not contain the cannabinoids that K2 has.
"So it's not illegal," Fehy said. "It doesn't fall under the ban. In his (the St, Charles County Mo Sheriff) opinion he felt people were possibly getting ripped off or possibly getting sold a product that's not really saying what it's doing."
"The best way to find out about Sky is to try it," Haider said.
Authorities say it can takes years of product testing to determine if a product is safe and warn that ingesting an untested product could be dangerous.
"So anybody who jumps right in and starts using this stuff today, tomorrow or the next month may have no serious issues but what's going to happen two years down the line or three years or six months from now," Fehy said.
A three gram bag of Sky will cost you approximately $20 to $50 dollars.
