I'm just here to learn from people like you!! YOU ROCK SIR!! YOU ROCK!
Sheckit lady!

okwell I had this big post as per usual, but RIU crashed on me so anyways I'm too tired or what ever to retype that whole thing. Anyways here is my hatch. Feels good to have security in there now. It's not finished. I'm going to add a shelf thing on the front there and putsome insulation there in the middle. Was my first time making a door. The jig I ended up buyging for hinges sucked ass. I'm surprised the thing went up and worked the way those hinge mourtsises turned out but I'm happywith it.

Here is a shot up and Action. I have locks from the other side on it, so I'm officially secure. I hope the sucka that would ever attempt to break in my room better get lots of power tools with silencers on them.

Holy shit dude, it's been a while since I checked on this thread and I had no idea the amount of effort you were putting into your grow! Rock on!
Your work makes a great read, and you'll be very pleased with your results if you keep showing the same reasoned approach and attention to detail you have been doing.
This is gonna kick arse, I can't wait to see your first harvest! But then, I'm sure, neither can you!

ROFL
When I thought about doing this, I really thought I would have my first harvest by the end of this month. Because of budget restraints now, It will be put off a few months. I don't care at this point. It's been a great project and I'm having a lot of fun with it regardless of the speed. I just can't wait til I say: " I just bought my last bag of weed"

I changed careers from X to carpentry about 3 years ago. I worked full time at X while attending a carpentry school 4-6 hours a day. I fell in love with doing this shit. I'm not that great at it, but it gives me great pleasure doing the work. I'm unemployed right now, so doing this room keeps my skills fresh and helps me learn other things too. That and I love bud, so there you have it. The way I look at it. If you are going to build a room that no one else in the world will ever see, then best to make the room as great as possible.

Its taking shape based on your input along with all the other input I've learned on this site. I couldn't have done it without you guys. Thanks again for the words.

I just read your entire post from start to finish. I am completely in aw at how much time and effort you have put into this. Everything looks fantastic, and I want you to know that I am going to be watching for the rest of it. I hope your dream room turns out amazing; I am pretty sure it will due to your knowledge and the fact that you are always pushing for perfection. Congrats on getting this far, I wish I had the time and space to do the same. Best of luck on the rest, and I cant wait to see the buds you pull out of this rockin' set up!!!!

Wow. Thank you for that. And reps for reading it all at once! I wouldn't punish my worst enemy with my ramblings.

most all of everything I have learned came from this website. maybe 95% of it. I cross reference from other sources as well. Time isn't that much a factor. i just put in chunks of time here and there. Just makes really what could be a 1 week job 3 months. But I dont have all the money and materials yet so it's really stretched out. Thanks again for the kind words. By space is only 7x11 at best. That was before my framing work. I'm just doing my best to get the max potential out of the room. Thanks again.

Thanks for stopping by. Sounds like you are where I was last August when I found this site. I hope this thread of mine and my experience can help motivate you to start yours out to. Just be patient and learn what you can and take it 1 step at a time.

subscribed..... great job so far! can't wait to see this in full operation.:leaf:
Thanks for the props and stopping by. I know sometimes it seems like the stuff is slow going, and it is. I am doing a lot of stuff on the house to. Majorly, making sure my basement doesn't flood ever again. So that is a lot of work. Once spring hits, I need to add some drainage and about 12 yards of gravel and top soil to regrade my land around the house.

Thanks again guys. If you have questions on anything I've done so far, please don't hesitate to ask.

If only college was this fun. I would have studied more and made better grades. =) Thanks for the replies guys. I was sort of geeking last night when I wrote all of this.
College is fun. I am a psychology major so, every new semester gets interesting.

I ordered my inline fans from hgt supply. They have 8 inch fans for 30 and 6 inch ones for 25. This was posted on post 1.

How did you find this thread? lol I've been down for awhile. Just now getting back into my grow again.

Hey flam; quick question for you, my dimensions for my box will be around 2x2x3, it's going to be pretty stealthy grow so I was wondering,
would one of those 6" inline fans work? I mean it has like 160-250CFM according to the "label." Would just one fan work? I'm only using CFLs and,
should I use passive or active intake holes?
(First grow) Thanks alot (:
ps. looking wicked.

Sounds similar in size to my little clone box. Did you check out my plans and the stuff for that? I just used a pc type fan but from radio shack. It runs off of AC 120V(which means you don't have to rig up any phone charge ac to dc adaptor. A simple splice of a lamp cord will run it) and has a sturdier metal frame than those plastic pc ones. It wasn't much. The general rule of thumb is that you want to remove the amount of air in 3-5 minutes. So for yours youre only talking a small volume of 12 cubic feet. So if you can find a small fan to run 2.4 cfm per minute. In your case the 160-250 CFM would work nice. Do you understand why? Pretty much any fan you find out there is going to do the job. Use the strongest fan you can afford that fits the space without interfering with the operation.

Those inline fans would work nice. Especially if you get it mounted without much vibration and such. Centrifugal can fans would be over kill in your situation I think but generally you would use those when you need to move not only a volume of air out fast, but over far distances, twists and turns, and heights etc. The key is to make sure that the heat is taken away from the space and not recycling it back to where the inputs are drawing their air. This I think is the most key important and something I see a lot of people on the forums doing lately. I'm personally doing both passive and active system of intake. Your space is so small, I think passive would be fine though.

Nice that you mentioned intakes. I'm actually back working on my room and have lots to post soon on it including a nice story on why i've been gone and not busy with it. As you can see when I posted #1 was a long time ago. I'm working today on the last touches of my venting system. A general rule of thumb I have learned is that if you use passive intake, then the area of the opening should be twice that of the area of the exhaust. So if you use a 6 inch fan, then 2 6 inch circles would do the job. (or the equivalent to in a larger circle or a rectangle. It is recommended to use active intakes though and run them at I believe 80% or so of the output so that air is always traveling into the space at a bit slower pace of the air being remove. If you have more air going into the room then all of the air that the output can't handle will be pushed out of any cracks or spaces elsewhere in the room. Another important reason to seal and make your spaces air tight. This will help manage the scents.

Thanks for stopping by. I'll have some pics and updates on my custom tanks, a neat-o stealth intake and exhaust system, final start up specs, and much much more soon.

Sweet.
Quite honestly; I might downsize to like a pc grow or do two of them.
Stealth is a serious thing in my case =\, I'm just scared that my carbon filter I make will not allow the fan to work. my buddy made a carbon filter and he said that not enough air moved through the filter and out of his box so that's my main issue =\.

Right now none =) This will be my first attempt at hydro. I've put out some soiled plants and harvests and just used that 400 MH throughout the grow. I wanted to wait for my big update to announce this, but since you asked, I"ll answer. I'll be starting out using 2 x 250 watt HPS over 4 trays apx. 16x20. My actual watts per sq. ft coverage will be about 51.44. This will be based off the suggestion of 50 watts per sq ft or greater. I will upgrade lights down the road, but will do this lower watt start up so I can compare the data from the switch up.
