Another Cooltube question

I'm waiting on a CoolTube with a 400w HPS light. I know that I will need a fan for this (it's going to be lighting a 2' x 2' x 6' space in a cabinet).

My present plan is to mount the Cooltube at about 5' high. Given that my babies are in a 15" high Waterfarm, that means they'd never be more than 3' or so from tons of light -- far more than they'd be getting from just about any configuration of CFLs, no matter how close I could get them.

My questions are:

  • where should I place the fan?
  • how big a fan will I need?
Can you attach an inline duct fan directly to the open end of the CoolTube (i.e. the one without the socket) or do you need to put some ducting between them? If the former, installation should be relatively easy. If the latter, I may need to do a bit of thinking.

with my experience in inline fans in the less ducting the better, also the least amounts of bends in the ducting. Every inch you use and every bend you place it will decrease the fans cfm. FYI

I'm wondering if a 250cfm fan wouldn't be enough for a straight-line setup: i.e.

Fan = hole in wall = CoolTube hanging from ceiling

This wouldn't give me any leeway to drop the CoolTube closer to the plants, but I don't think it would matter much. (They're never going to be less than a couple feet from the light anyway, especially once I get a SCRoG going).

I may go with a bigger fan in case I need a carbon filter later: I'm not too worried about the smell, but I have no idea how pungent a blooming pair of Bubblegum Indica plants can get.

it would absolutely do the job,,,I had to hook up a speed control switch to mine to slow it down,,it is total overkill for my space,,but I have no probs keeping it around 70-75 on it's lowest setting,,I bought this fan for a future room grow,,and wanted to try it out,,a 250 will do just fine,,your on your way to great growing man,,,good products and a lil love and attention go a long way when growing,,my tube stays about 8 inches above the plants,,they love it,,good luck all the way
