I'd love to see pics from the heckler.

Basically what PSUAGRO said.
you want pics from my garden, you got 'em

strains are

sour bubble (pre 98 bubba x double purple doja)
btk kush (p75 or p88 of the c99 lineage from a bros grimm mixed pack x LA confidential)
vanilluna (my pictures of her are on seed boutique's and other seed sites, local clone is extremely variegated)

You probably should have started with these pictures. They look very healthy early on, then they look deficient toward the end..

You're not going to win any beauty pageants with that.

Imo, captain morgan's recent death star looks a lot healthier. Of course there's always room for improvement as neither look perfect. It does look like a pretty finicky strain.
his leaves may look healthier, but the structure is not the
"would leave a bruise if i shot it at you with a slingshot" density
i am used to seeing. buds look more like a lemon G. BTW,
i just pulled those pics from the icmag thread's last page.

if you look at the way that the buds formed, not the leaves,
then you will see the difference.

like i said, i never grew her.

ummm....

read the picture names? different strains, lol.
just demonstrating i do know what i'm talkin'
about, and have experience with LED.

that deathstar looks like hell, dunno if its what your feeding her or environmental stress
but that cut can be done a LOT better than that. she yields stupid well for a 17+ year old
strain (if you have the elite clone, a lot of folks have s1). she's pretty finicky on N FYI.
Thought you were just a drive by. I wasn't happy with the DS either. She had tremendous growth and looked very healthy with no signs of deficiency but suddenly the entire plant foxtailed late in flower, before that the bud growth was average. I'm sure I'll still break a gram per watt but the buds are not very dense. I did a healthy top dress of EWC about half way through flower and the LSD finished great with rock hard nugs but the DS flaked out on me. Was it too much N in flower that screwed the DS up? Probably won't run her again, don't know that many people that even like it.

nah bro, i really enjoy your threads.
i came back to RIU because of your CREE a19 thread :)

don't you use subcool's supersoil? that recipe's pretty hot IME
and some plants will show sub-par growth characteristics.
works amazingly well for some vars, not so much for others.

your plant doesn't look like it is overdone on N, but your application
of worm castings could have been just enough to cause the foxtails
without causing any leaf shine or other signs of N overdose.

Thanks ij,I love doing this stuff. Yea I think SC's recipe was my first. I rushed a couple small plants into this cab to try out the new COB's so no special soil for them, just a happy frog, ocean forest mix. That's why I did the EWC,I was seeing such massive growth and I worried the soil was going to run out of gas too early. She looked very healthy all the way through but the entire plant foxtailed all at once.

that's the "problem" with organics (which i am still an avid organic head)
is the lack of control on what the plant is getting. you could have had bits
of amendments in the FFOF/happy frog that weren't composted properly
and broke down toward the end of the grow, changing your soil's nutrient
profile.

that very reason is also why i prefer to use plant materials like alfalfa and
organic corn meal for N when building soils, it breaks down quickly into a
nice stable humic form. bone meal can be hit or miss for me, maybe it was
because i was trying whatever i could get locally and it was different animals?

i've always toyed with the idea of mulching with high carbon mulch for
strains that like to fox-tail late in flower, wondered if it would tighten the
buds up as it consumes some available N.

my quantum kush , plushberry and jilly fox tailed. This round I added leaf mold to the mix. I always use home made vermicompost. If carbon could help with fox tailing. That would be cool. Then I may not have to deal with that this round.

don't worry smartass, you won't be waiting long. there's a whole deathstar
thread over at IC for the record.

i lived in athens, ohio for a few years and saw more fuckin' deathstar than i ever
wanted to. it got to the point where i wouldn't even buy it, i just got sick of it! never
had the desire to grow it because it was everywhere. everyone grew it because she yields
big nugs of 20%+ THC, but not everyone could do her proper.

i'm not really hatin', just saying that captain can do a lot better! i've seen his other grows
and his shit is on point normally, just this plant looks pretty rough and i know she can be
a finicky bitch. :)

oh and since you wanna call me out, how about this plant with less than 90w of LED?
(9 plants under 800w cali light works LED)
Nice girls grower.................I don't see a huge improvement over CM's grow though and your using 400w+ more of led power over his run(clw ss 800= 650w?). Breaking down the wattage per plant isn't a very accurate # imo (w/sq ft), so I just go with the total consumed ???

Never grew DS, so I can't comment on her difficulty level honestly........YES plant/rock based nutrients are the new "shit"! pun intented:P

thanks for the pics

I would be interested in seeing your soil recipe. I think it can be tricky to mimic and improve on what nature does to make soil. I do add biochar to my soil recipe. I've had some interesting conversations with other organic soil makers. One guy I know tries to mimic nature by layering his soil with the richest soil on top and the weaker on the bottom and he swears by it. Another doesn't transplant,he puts his seeds or clones in his final pot size and layers his soil out from the center, weak in the center and strong on the bottom and sides.

Hey Captain, sweet grows man, what 730nm type of led did you buy? Just curious there is a ton out there.
