What's the better cob cxb3570 or cxb3070????
I think you mean CXB3590 not CXB3570.
The CXB3590 is a more efficient light engine that the CXB3070, but does cost more.
The difference in price is marginal compared to the energy savings to get the same lumens/par watts.

Exactly so, I'd only add that because CXB3590 is more efficient, it will remain competitive longer and will pay for itself fastest and thus be cheaper once long term running costs are accounted for.

These are the reasons I went ahead and spent a lil extra, because I knew I'd get my money back in lower running cost many times over.

So I was wondering if I should go with a 2 step or a 3 step cxb3590 bb Cree cob? Also are the steps for ramp up to full on?

I think when you ask "which is more efficient ?" it depends what variables you decide to factor in.

It's probably better to think of the cxb3590 as a bigger cxb3070, because really what we should look at, is at what price can I get them ?

In my case :
Buying cobs from KB, with holders and lenses
3070 were 3/4 of the price of 3590 ..
=> if you run a 3070@37.5W VS a 3590@50W (ie 3/4 of the wattage), they have just about identical min efficiency.

It all depends on the price really.
If 3070s drop, by say, 25% in price : it would be cheaper to make a *more efficient* setup with 3070's than 3590, assuming you find the good driver combo of course,
for 200W :
7x 3070 BB @28.6W beats 4x CXB3590 @50W

and that's with more point sources too, good for you plants, and good for thermal dissipation along the heatsink.

just my 0.02

You got the wrong cob with the wrong bin.

CXB3590 BB don't exist to my knowledge, and would be terrible in comparison to a CD, which is what I think you are looking for.
(CD is the top bon for cxb3590 in 3500K spectrum, BB is for 3070).

DB is the brand new bin, 1000 lumens/watt better than CD. Should be available just about anytime.

Just muddying the waters, lol

What's the source and word about the DB coming out part of your statement ?

That's a really big jump ... like reaaally big :bigjoint:
