Another Question. Brown Pistols but Clear Trichomes!

Ok, So thanks for all the help to my previous questions guys, but I have yet another question.

The buds are finally starting to grow and swell up by adding just a little more light as I am using 200w of cfl and im growing in a dwc.

It is around week 7 of flowering and the buds are climbing up the stems little by little. There needs to be more bud still however.

Yesterday I saw that nearly all the pistols have turned amber, but the trichomes are still clear as they always were... as I said its week 7 into flowering...is everything okay?

thanks guys

First, you need to check trichs in several locations and take an average. There is a misconception that all trichs go from clear to cloudy to amber in lockstep. But new clear trichs are being formed all the time. It's about percentages. Not until you see an average of 25% amber are you getting close.

the trichs are what you need to check and check many places the pistols arent that important they let you know its agein but not when its ripe

The large fan leaves usually yellow and die from the bottom up during flowering. The plant realizes it is nearing the end of it's life cycle. Just as long as it isn't happening too fast.

It is a percentage preference. All cloudy trichomes is the peak of THC production. The more amber you have, the more body or couchlock buzz you'll have.

yea im really not sure what kind it is... i found 2 seeds in this bud I smoked that my friend said was "headies" which is just a vague term for good bud.

Thats the problem with smoking, I just cant remember what kind of high it gave me, so Im not sure if it was sativa or not lol.

So you guys think there's no problem with the pistols being all amber, while the trichomes are clear?

Have the pistils started "withdrawing" at all as the calyxes swell?? There is more to judging "ripeness" than just the color of the trichs!!! I'm no wordsmith, but Uncle Ben does a wonderful job of explaining this on a few of his threads. Check 'em out. (I'd give a link, but I don't have a clue how to do that. That's what happens when an old fart gets on a computer, lol)

But, it does sound like a sativa-leaning strain. Patience is a virtue/good things come to those who wait!!

Good luck dude, sounds like you'll have some very tasty buddage in the near future!!!!

I mean are they pulling back in to the calyxes or laying down, or are they still sticking out everywhere like someones hair when they have a bad static electricity problem?

LMAO!!!!! Now THAT"S a good description!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn, I'm still laughing at that one!!!! Nah, you've still got a bit to go there. When you start getting 25%+ amber trichs and the hairs kind of "become one with the calyxes/bud", then it's time to chop!!!! Of course, many people intentionally chop a bit early -- it just depends on what sort of high you are after. As a general rule of thumb, chop a bit early for a more "cerebral" high and let 'em get really ripe for more of a "dude, I just forgot how to breathe and I can't move my legs!" stone.
