Ants Infestation in Roots Organics soil

Hi Fellows,

I bought a large bag of Roots Organics for my next grow, and kept it around for about a month until needed which was yesterday. Much to my surprise when I opened the bag realized there was an ant infestation (small ants, no leaf cutters). I proceeded to look for an organic solution on line and found out a web page which recommended to put in a blender a bunch of garlic and lemon juice and applied to the infested area.

I put 6 garlic cloves and the juice of three lemons and blended it together and then applied to the soil... 24 hours later there was no signs of ants in the soil, however the soil reeks garlic, I wonder if the final flowers will have the garliky flavour?

Thanks a lot for your input.

Cheers!

BB.

The mix was made with 1 1/2 gallons of water and worked wonders, just worried about the flavour...

Thanks again,

Think of how many waterings it's going to get before finished product. No way your bud will taste like garlic. Fairly certain the whole make your bud taste like something is a myth anyway, but would loved to be proved wrong (with science, not someone saying so)

That´s all I needed, on to work then, I am transplanting my clones... I have three cuttings via air layering from a Greatfull Casey and re vegging a Heavy Duty Fruity from TH seeds.

Thanks for the tip!

Cheers!

One of my other concerns would be, how does the garlic and lemon will affect things such as soil PH and do these additives will affect the soil and the way it performs?

Thanks,

BB
That was gonna be my Q too. Did you have any PH troubles with this? Also did you apply it again after that time, or just this 1 was enough?

I agree....check the pH and fix it as well as you can. My guess is the lemon may drastically drop your pH.

The lemon juice would only have a temporary effect on the soil pH. The compounds released when the garlic is crushed are antimicrobial, insecticidal organosulfur compounds. These will eventually break down as well, I would just give it some Bio-Tone and let it set for at least a week or two.
