I have ants all around 1 of my plants and its eaten them up everyday can i use raid or anything to kill them that wont hurt the plants?

Are you sure it is the ants doing the eating? They have stolen a few of my seeds this year, but once they sprout, I don't have any further problems.

Iam thinking its ants because i found a hill of them right beside my plant but i did see grass hoppers on some of my other plants because i didn't think they were harmful.

Heh, guess again. You've got it exactly backwards. :lol: It's the grasshoppers. Actually ants running on your plants are a good thing. They keep it clean of parasites. Use an organic insecticide.

Just a side note and has no bearing on this thread, but did you know that ants carry no diseases what so ever? Completely clean insect.

Ants don't eat the leaves man did you not read the last post? Grasshoppers= bad, ants= good. You need an organic pesticide to control them or else they will be chomping on your plants all year. As a side note I wonder if the ants tunneling underground would help with soil aeration? Idk just a sober thought

I was also thinking of them helping for drainage but i wounder if they would hurt the roots?

It depends. If you are growing in a container, they might be too much of a good thing for colonization of the soil. As a rule though, they don't harm plants. I've got plenty of ants here (of course) and have never sen a plant topple or die because of them....:peace:

This year has been brutal with ants too and my vegetable garden is doing just fine. I never had any problems with ants unless they come inside my house. That is annoying as shit

Someone was telling me that in Brazil they have these ants that literally come into your house and clean it. The ppl have learned to just leave them alone, since the ppl aren't on their menu...:lol:

yeah-on my grow site i have seen occasonaly some ants running down my plant, and i suspected them for munching one of my leaves, but its good to know that they are good.

i saw something like that on the discovey channel a yr or 2 back. it was crazy, hundreds of thousands of ants.
