Any over the top dreams?

No I don't mean sleeping dreams, you can share those too though if you want lol. I mean does anyone have any over the top dreams that they want to do in their life before they die?

When I retire my ultimate goal is to build a large ship. One that resembles the old ships from the 14 and 15 hundreds. Then sail around the world from port to port and live at sea until I die. This will of course be when I retire like I said so I'll have plenty saved up and hopefully some form of income to keep resupplying at the ports. I would need a crew of sorts too, some like minded people who I wouldn't have to worry about, aka not some 20 year old on the run lol, people retired or well off like myself. It would have back up engines to only use in emergencies and the main form of movement will be coming from sails, just like the old ships used to work. Except for some minor modern day implements for comfort and necessity (cleaner quarters, a radio for communication, ways to keep food etc fresh for longer and things that will keep it up to code) I want to keep it as original as possible. Imagine the reaction some people might have when they see it out at sea, like a barge or something they would think it's a ghost ship!

Hell we could have barrels of booze on board and maybe even a little garden if you know what I mean! ;-) Maybe when I retire I'll come on here and recruit some of you if you're still around! :D

My dreams have changed.
I at one time wanted to be a man living in a van down by the river...

days young tho.. anyone have a nice van?

I wanted to live out in the MT's away from all of you.. but.. I learned.. it's cold there.. no internet.. and I have grown accustom to using indoor toilets...

right the fuck 0n, im down dude. hit me up i will definatlly sail with you. i always wanted ot build and old time ship like that for fun. my dream is to run a private space rocket biz. the idea is to well if i tell you someone above me will steal it. lets just say it involves rockets and humans in space. resupply missions and such. also i want to build vineyards in multiple countries and help any country to reestablish a better soil system for their ecosystem. for retirement, dude im defiantly there with you on sailing the sea. i have an outfit that goes perfect. medieval with modern day sounds wonderful. i think i have a REN fair style jacket that will work perfect. class never looked so good until you showed up

I always wanted to own my own greenhouse/garden center.

Hey that's very attainable! There are a few places around me like that actually. There's even one for sale with the large longhouse style greenhouse in the back for sale with a small shop in front of it on the side of the road. :)

I'm too busy putting myself into debt with schooling at the moment. Plus I would have alot to learn ontop of what I'm already learning. But yes it is actually attainable if I desired and worked hard enough. It's just over the top for me given my current situation.

I totally understand, school is such a bitch with the cost! My goal is over the top but I've had plenty of over the top goals lol, I only just recently started DOWN scaling them to be more realistic. For a while I wanted to do the same thing as above, except it would be an AIRship, think, the ones in WoW they use for travel. After researching it a bunch I found we don't have the technology yet to make it possible. Here's another pic of the size the ship will be. I've actually been on one before and I think that's how I got hooked, especially after going on a cruise. I live to be on a boat!

Name ideas, The S.S. Dreams/Dream(because it is my dream to captain her)? S.S. Sandman? (my avatar)

I've had various dreams throughout my life.. many of which have been shot down... but I keep on, keepin on. My very first dream was to never give up.. I've lived up to that dream so far.

I'm living my dream, I found an amazing woman to share life with and we have wonderful children together.
For some people they dream of this there whole life and never find it.. :-(

Maybe not an "over the top" dream to some, but it was for me..

About 15 years ago a guy I worked with and I were going to buy a boat and sail to the island of Komoto and get some small dragons to bring back to the US. After talking a little we thought at least one of us should learn to navigate and have some idea how to sail a boat. Dream ended.

Hey now! Do as see4 does and keep on keepin on! There are plenty of classes to go learning to sail and navigate. I don't recommend attempting to bring back the dragons though. 1, it's frowned upon and 2 they are actually very aggressive. :)

Aggressive and when you get bitten you will get septic !

But back to the subject @ hand, a ship that size will take a fair sized crew - somewhere in the 12 to 15 range to handle the canvas and lines.
That is not a "set it and forget it' propulsion system, it takes constant tinkering to make them sail correctly.

I've sailed aboard this ship several times.
She takes a full crew of 80 plus upwards of 150 cadet's (trainee's).
The amount of work is phenomenal.

and deadly. but yea man, there are tons of ways to get into sailing.. its not that hard. navigation is easy when you have a good gps system onboard. Ok, so navigation is solved.. next.. work on sailing and safety classes, I recommend CPR courses.. but honestly man, for leisure, sailing is not hard at all... took me 2 seasons to get the hang of it..

huh? Why would he need a boat with a 12 person crew? he's not thinking about a small yacht... a simple weekender, something over 34 feet should be fine.. a two person crew is fine.

i've sailed from south florida to jamaica.. no issues at all.... granted it wasn't really "open" ocean like being the Pacific.. but it's still doable.. he just needs to navigate around rough seas..

34', yes I agree - but the pic he posted is considerably larger than that - and - undoubtedly those "classics" don't have automated winches, fancy rigging, autopilot, lightweight sheets etc.

See4 thought you were talking about the other guy's boat with the comodo dragons. As for mine like I said, I want to keep it looking as original as possible but I'll be adding in modern things to help with comfort and necessity that they didn't have back in the actual 14 and 15 hundreds. Things like lightweight sheets, automated wenches and fancy rigging. It won't have auto pilot though as the only time engines will be run is in an emergency(unless you can have auto pilot while still using sails? Even then not sure I want that) for the sake of keeping things original, and for the cheaper cost not needing to pay for as much fuel. I figure I'll need at least ten people for a crew when the time eventually comes. Until then there is much work and research and learning to be done.

It'll be a shit ton of work, but that's the lifestyle! :) As with everything else, you get out what you put in!

Also the boat you posted is WAAAYY more boat than I will ever want or need lol. The others that I posted and have been on are a fraction of that size

I just wanna live out in the woods gave my.own big house and property grow how many ever plants i need and smoke and do random projects on.my property and enjoy what time i have left

all very good points. which would persuade me to agree with your observations.
