yer but i had a chat with the missus :) she said i can do another so thought i might as well do it right with a hps.

worked out i can get an oz per plant, with about 5 plants, thats 500quid plus which could really help us.

plus, im selling my cfls and reflector on sunday so this hps is basicly free with extra money in my pocket. its all good :)
thats quality mate, yea an oz per plant is easily do-able, i veg for up to 8wks and pull anywhere between 3and5 per plant and do 5 at a time.

no an hps will burn out your timer without a contactor to divert the high initial start up current away from the timer otherwise your timers contacts will fry and weld themselves together, causing your light to stay on 24hrs.

but if my timer is on the socket then my ballast attached to the timer....

i dont see what u mean...

ive heard about those old copper coil ballasts that just start up with a burst of power but i thought most ballasts today start up slowly till they reach full power?

you must install a contactor if you are using a timer with hps set ups.its just as important as the ballast.a standard timer will eventually melt and cause a serious fire hazzard.

right so you must have a heavy duty timer because theres no way on this earth a standard household timer will handle the start up current from a 600, it would fry it on the first use, you can get away with a 250 plugged straight into a timer, but my 250 "fused" 3 timers permenantly on before i got my contactor, now i use a 600 i HAVE to use the contactor, theres no way round it unless i buy a heavy duty timer designed for turning on immersion heaters etc on that can handle the start up current, and they cost more than the contactor itself.

no its ok, i wanna be safe. i only have a normal house hold, normal amp rated 7 day timer so i wanna see if i need to buy anything else. i dont want my shit settin on fire, or even worse, the house with my gf and child whilst im at work.

has to be 100% safe.

i know ur saying it is, but even if there is abit of doubt id still like to know about it.

i appriciate both of ur help. just trying to figure out this kit.

i have emailed them so hopefully i will get a response tomorrow before i leave work
