Anyone ever top a male?

So I sexed out two strains. I'm keeping one male of each for seeds. Right after they showed, I selected them, and even though they had little balls showing, I topped them(they were to tall) and put them back under 24 lights to reveg. I want to grow these for a while, i'm nowhere ready to collect the pollen yet.

that was two days ago, today I looked them over and noticed the stalk was hollow....I mean a hole, hollow. I know from harvesting that plants have that hollow feed tube, but i've never seen it so pronounced before...

So my ? is:
does the male plant act the same way a female does when its topped? Will it return to veg state and reflower like a female does?

This matters because i've only got a few other plants that haven't shown yet and was planning on killing off any other males. Guess i'd better hang on to any males to be sure...

first timer here.. so my opinion is completely out my ass (im honest lol).
I would think that if you tried to clone it , it should work..
I dont think a clone has anything to do with sex at all.
I would think that noone ever clones them because people dont want them lol.

I can see why you would, but I have no clue what you should do dude.
best of luck !

Sorry to have to be the one to point this out to you but the thread is about topping not cloning. To the originator of this thread; I have never topped a male but think you should keep the others until you see how the topped plant responds.:leaf:

Hey guys, thanks for replieing. Keeping other males is what i'll do, but i'm gonna stay with the topped ones as long as possible, just to see if it worked. I was hoping a breeder would reply thinking they may have done it before.....they are living so far....

A male plants job is to get tall and push pollen constantly all season long. I think u'll find it will grow, and continue to push pollen uninterrupted.

Ive never re-veged a male. But thats good info to know. I would of thought you could chop off the balls and it would not regro until you changed the light schedule again. Why not just take pollen and store it?

to be honest though, if u lst and wrap your plant around the container for maximum light exposure, cutting anything is worse, you can maximize coverage area without stress. plus you can tie the branches which turn into colas so their all level, which means you can put it closer to the light, more lumens, more growth, yada yada people say they see an inch a day growth on a plant w one cola, i get a half inch a day on a plant with ten cola's lst'd to the same hight. Thats 5-1.also the plants i have reveged, once back to complete veg will grow way faster than first gen seed or clone. W age comes wisdom, i think the roots are the same way, if they servive their first year they know what to expect the second time around.. and well, their fast learners

Yes, you can store the pollen. I would be interested to know what the male will do with a light change. i have only topped males outside, so the light pattern remained constant. The male plants always revitalize after a trim, but in the end I have more pollen sites, and the production never slows down.

You can simply pop the balls off manually through the entire grow, but it's a pian and those balls are quick to open.

WoW! some great inpuit here. just what I was looking for. Yes the plants have continued to grow, like crackerjax said, and if they continue nto flower i'll save it. bUT MY GOAL IS TO VEG A KNOWN MALE AS LONG AS I CAN AND POLLO WHEN I WANT. SORRY BOUT THE CAPS, KITTEN STEPPED ALL OVER K-BOARD...

yea guys, i know its aginst the grain about males, but i want what i want, and what i w2ant is to know all of the potentional that a male has. I live in bullshit potville USA, and i think that I can breed better smoke than whats localy...besidesw, I don't know the strongest female of the strongest bre3ed is yet. Crackerjax, i'll keep a close eye on him. I expect he'll do what you said....

Its been a bit since I posted last, but both plants have been doing fine. So much so that I put them back in the veg room. No balls have returned. ....this is good. I need to assess the females, I can't believe I got 8 out of 10 females from seed, and mate them.
the males have gone back to reveg and new growth has begun. New nodes are showing now and it might become a bush. Might. We'll see.
the tops closed up where I took them off, and it looks like they healed well....
As I said, I put them back in the veg room, and will wait and watch. I'll post pics as soon as I get the nerve....
