Anyone ever tried with cheaper strains to learn?

I'm new to this and I've considered buying cheap strain seeds and seeing what works and what doesn't and mistakes and up the experience level? I have 3 decent stains but don't know if I'm doing it right. I bought some books, done lots of reading. I garden and do other seedlings but I don't want to mess up 20$ per seed or throw down 200$ just for a bulk discount. Idk if it's even a practice, I was just curious if anyone ever did a trial run for gaining efficient knowledge or growing without discouragement...lol. I wish I had a growmaster or class to teach me...books and online forums are a godsend. Any opinion about above would be great.

As for cheap seeds to practice on, I'm also going to explore am ideal medium that works best for my map coordinates, I have no idea what to buy for indoor, although I am intrigued, (not discouraged so I'm following a calendar about my ideal zone for outdoor. I might've missed the boat and it's too late, but at least I can practice for next season.
So my point is, should I be using autoflowrt or feminized or crapshoot and pull males? Can you get inexpensive auto flower? What about for hydroponic? I'm so into this as a hobby and personal use make edibles and smoke my higher grade. There'such to know! It's so satisfying when any plant grows.

I’d look into strains that are considered “easy to grow” or ones that are highly “disease resistant”. You’re gonna learn a ton on your own as you grow and you’ll end up not needing to rely on these forums at some point. Also, soil grows are pretty much the easiest to run for beginners

Welcome to RIU.
You can learn all you need right here. No autos for beginner run. Maybe 'fems' for a first run but Photos will teach you what the sexes look like. You will probly fuck up, lots of us did on first runs. But wait, right here you will find a good deal of help from folks who know. Start a grow journal and make plenty of notes. If things get a bit wonky, there is always knowledge here for the asking. do yourself a favor and do not expect much from free or bag seeds. Good luck...

I wouldn't go with autoflowers, if I was you I would go with the feminised photos, photos are more forgiving than autos, I've recently swapped over. Welcome to RIU happy growing.

Funny you mention this! I bought some ILGM seeds before I knew about quality genetics and have a ton of their seeds but won't use them for my quality control grow in my DWC. Price ended up being about the same with the freebies between the two (bought Ethos through NASC) but I'm growing to the legal limits here in my state with 4 in my DWC and 8 in my outdoor garden! I'm expecting about a pound... lol

Use can always use bag seed for couple grows to work out the kinks...I would suggest not a bunch of different strains as you will find different strains will respond differently to the same environment. Just take notes and document what you are doing/seeing and make one change at a time. You'll figure it out.
