Anyone here been to AMSTERDAM???

I want to plan a trip there for pleasure/research.

Is it possible to look at larger grow operations while there - see what other people are doing? Possibly learn from a long term grower?

I also want to research the different strains and such. I plan to go during the Cannabis Cup.

Any tips? or things you wish you knew when you got there?

i went a few months ago, there is the cannabis museum and the cannabis college, there is plants growing in both places, nothing major just a few plants, in the college you have to pay to go down stairs and see the plants, im sure if you knew what you where talking about the guy in there could point you in the right direction

amsterdam is a really expensive place, i spent over £700 in 3 days, there is so much to do and see that 3 days is just not enough, the weed will blow your mind, anything you want im sure you could get

Pot laws in netherlands are very strict on the cafes themselves, not the users.

No you dont need to be a citizen, they wouldnt shut down their entire tourism income by doing something silly like that.

Cafe's are only allowed to sell small quantities per customer, usually only 1-2 grams per day. Just need to be 21 with ID.

Smoking in public will land you a ticket. Only cafe properties, houses, etc are the allowable places to smoke.

Don't expect to think you can walk down the street with a bong and blow smoke in a cops face, they will arrest you.

As mentioned above, contrary to popular belief, marijuana is technically illegal in Amsterdam. However Dutch law tolerates it for personal use inside the coffee shops. They know that if locals and tourists have the ability to go to an establishment for their vices, then they're less likely to be involved in higher street crimes in the process, and less likely to be exposed to "harder" drugs. You cannot walk around the city smoking a joint, as you will be arrested. I'm not aware of any country in the world that has fully legalized marijuana. Just differing levels of tolerance and enforcement.

Amsterdam is beautiful, in fact northern Europe in general is just plain awesome. Definitely go!

Tip: don't try to take any pictures in the red light district.

you are allowed 5 grams on you at any one time, so you could go in one shop and buy 5 grams then go in another and buy 5 grams if you really wanted to and you have to be 18 to buy it, and as for walking about the streets smoking it you are not allowed, but this does not stop anyone from doing so

The laws are not enforced to their full extent. For example the Dutch tobacco ban, just like in england, yet if you are in a coffee shop (this is not my experience, but a good friend about a month ago) they will not throw you out of throw knives through your lit joint, they simply tell you to keep your tobacco pouch underneath the table., Same goes for outdoors smoking, while it is not permitted, the police rarely seem to actively go about stopping it in the parks and such.

As far as i am aware, the cannabis musem has open displays of grows and such, might be worth a look. These days i simply wouldn't bother going to Amsterdam unless i had more money than i cared to keep, it's just so damned expensive. Even when i went about 3 years ago, i was still looking at about 20 euros for a "heap" meal out before i even ocnsidered buying drinks. My firned and i resorted to raiding the supermarkets most days for treats to take out and about.
