Here is the directions from the hanna manual for extending the doo hickey that reads the ph.

Pull out 2 mm (1/8'') of the
cloth junction to renew the
electrode reference (it is recommended
to cut the cloth
leaving always at least 2 mm
-1/8'' over the reference compartment)
and recalibrate the
meter.
The cloth junction can be pulled out approximately
20 times. After that, the electrode should
be replaced.

My question is, do you use pliers to pull out the cloth.....does it pull out easily.....and then what would you use to cut the old cloth away???

Which meter do you have? I have the combo meter. In my manual it says to prolong the life of the pH electrode, it is recommended to clean it monthly by immersing it in the HI 7061 cleaning solution for 1/2 hr and then rinse and recalibrate. The electrode can be replaced by using the supplied tool HI 73128. Insert tool into the electrode cavity and rotate counter clockwise. Then pull it out by using the other side of the tool. Reinstall in reverse order. My meter came with the black plastic tool.

Does your meter only do ph? I have the HANNA meter that does pH, PPM or EC, that may be why our directions are differant. My electorde does not have any cloth.
