Aquaponic Greenhouse Grow Using Led Grow Lights in Winter.

I am growing in a greenhouse in the Winter using supplemental led grow lights? I have a homemade greenhouse with small indoor channel dug in the bottom to hold fish. I heated the water to keep fish active and producing food for the plants. I use the tepid fish water to irrigate the hydroponic grow trays and containers and the plants use the fish waste to produce a nitrate for growing, at the same time this cleans the water for the fish.

I have the led grow lights come on before dawn and shut off after dusk for a 16 hour light cycle. The led grow lights provide supplemental lighting and effectively has the plants growing thinking its summertime.

I am going to start flowering cycle in 1-2 weeks changing the light on on time to 13 hours. This will start flowering and is possible because its Dec with daylight hours being short.

Aquaponics works very well and with the use of foliar feeding trace minerals the plants get what they need to flourish.

The grow trays and containers are actually independent bio filters which is how the fish waste gets converted into a nitrogen the plants can use.

I sacrificed 4 different strains to seed them with Agent Orange strain pollen. I got seeds from

• Bubba Kush x AO
• Hindu Kush X Skunk #1 X AO
• Purple Kush X AO
• Train Wreck X AO

Here are a few pictures of the mother plants that have been pollinated with Agent Orange pollen. I paid $7.50 a seed for the Agent Orange and got a male so I decided to pollinate 4 strains I had growing to make seeds for the winter grow.

He's using sun light to grow the plants and the LEDs just for supplemental lightning. LEDs alone suck but the way he's doing it sounds like a great idea to me.

In these pictures you can see that the sun is supplying light in daytime for the plants. If you look close you can see a tint of red purple on some of the leaves but of course the sun out shines the lights. Also some of the wavelengths aren't visible to the human eye although the plant can use it.
Here are some pictures of the plants from Yesterday. I want to change the light hours in about a week. My other 180 watt led grow light is due to arrive the 24th. Then I will have 2 good lights to start off the flowering.

These pictures are inside the greenhouse all irrigated with the water from the fish and supplemented with foliar feeding trace minerals to keep plants healthy.

Any constructive comments are appreciated. I am experimenting with led lighting to see if the plants can finish correctly.

Here are pictures of supplemental lighting coming through greenhouse. Reflection of UFO led grow lights in pond. I tried to capture the reflection of the light in the pond and at the same time show the light coming through the greenhouse reflected in the same picture.

I am lowering the trays and bio filter grow containers all the way down to help warm the root zone and help keep the heat from just rushing out. into the air the heated pond water will rise to the bottom of the trays that are a couple of inches off the deck.

I am preparing for the 24th so I can put the 180watt led in there with the 90.
The plan is to start flowering in a week by changing the timer for the led to come on for 13 hours a day during the daylight hours so as to use the sunlight and led at the same time.

As far as the hydro systems go I am going to do ebb and flow, drip, DWC, and aeroponic.

Give it some time. You'll get more people interested. I would really love to see this aquaponic grow to the end.

Thanks for the encouragement I will put up a few more pics. The light 180 watt came today and when I turned it on it was like daylight.I think I got a Veg light.

I am going to change things up and use the 180 watt for 8 hours a day during the time the sun is up! The 90 watt I will still have coming on from 5am to 9pm until I start flowering.

These pictures are with just the 180 watt blackstar on.

Thank you for asking. I have been modifying the greenhouse adding reflective insulation that is designed for insulating houses. It floats and I will be transferring plants into different systems.

I have changed the light hours a week ago lowering it to 14 hours a day. I will be lowering the lights again to 13 hours in a couple of days. The logic was to ease into flowering and I want to try 13 hours for bigger buds.

I have the water heated as you know and will be having a few of the plants floating in the water which will keep root zone temp around 60-65 degrees f. I hope that will also encourage growth of the plants.

Thank you for your interest. BTW this is a legal grow for all that wonder. Here are some pics and I will add more in a few days to show final systems. The goal is to find the best strain out of the 4 I created. We can only have 6 full size plants legally in CA. So I will weed out any weak and males and then concentrate on the 6 best.

The hamper with plants that is hanging is a bio filter that cleans the water for the fish while converting the fish waste and nitrate buildup to usable nitrogen for plant growth. All the grow containers are actually bio filters.

Hi

Yes I am going to float a couple of plants directly into the water so the roots will be warm. I will just have to supply air as when water gets warmer there is less oxygen available for the fish. Look at the last pictures I uploaded and you will see a 5 gal bucket net pot floating in the water by a floating ring. Also the reflective insulation is like bubble wrap and floats I will be incorporating that also in the system. Probably a NFT and a DWC out of that setup.

ps look up tkrimo on youtube to see videos I made in tiered ebb and flow systems using the pond to irrigate. I like ebb and flow because it changes out the oxygen in the root zone every on cycle. I use the main 4x4 tray to pipe to all the grow trays and containers.

As the water is pumped into the tray it is from the top so it will constantly overrun the normal input from the bottom and then when it reaches the overflow it dumps out into the next tray where it repeats until it goes back to the fish. The trick is to have a smaller input to the tray and a larger overflow to keep the tray from overflowing. By overflowing from the top when the system shuts off it will completely drain from ALL trays which is what you want for health of the roots.
