if that runs 24/7 you may run into overwatering problems, what are you planing on using for nutes.....just fish tank water? i would also be wary of the nitrates from the fish poop ect.... just a thought, intresting concept i wish you luck!!

what kind of overwatering problems? yes the system runs 24/7. yes i have been using just the fish water for nutes. what should i use for nutes? how can the nitrates of the fish poop hurt the plants?

just keep postin pics, nutes is a hard one seeing as you have fish in you rez... dont know if fish would like nutes?

yes i will. i have a crawfish in my tank, i have around 10 goldfish, and i also have an alligator. you can see him if you look closely at the pics posted above. all of their poop is sucked up the pump and into the plant bed(plastic gutter above tank)which gives the plants nutrients. however i dont know if is enough nutrients to feed the 7-8 plants. i got my idea from this VIDEO

It looks like you've already got yourself quite the algae problem, MJ can grow under some really shitty conditions but definitely wont thrive.

if i have 2 lights set up, how many watts each do you think i need to give off the best restuls for my 8 plants to grow?

i only have the one light on them right now. how manywatts should i be lookingfor on the shop lights??????

watts completely depend on how much you are willing to spend, like i said goto menards and get a 14$ dual 4' shoplight or go nuts and get a t5 setup t5's are the shit i have a 4X4' t5 setup and its the mad note grows hella veg. although im kinda wanting to get my hands on a 4X8 t5 that will work in my alotted space a bit better.

they have been growing for around 4 weeks. i will post more pics today on how the plants are doing. one plant died, but the others are getting much larger. i think i am going to get a 4' shoplight with high pressure sodium bulbs soon. the alligator seems to be fine also lol

Well Done...

I have played with this idea a little bit...

All I can tell you is to monitor your water quality CLOSELY, or you may kill your fish...

Aquaponics in small tanks are very hard to maintain... small reservoirs just fluctuate more wildly than large ones...

The water chemistry can build to toxic levels very fast, and fish don't last long in "bad water"...

Just be careful and have fun...
