Are they streching?

My (sativa) plants just started to get there first true leaves today and are already 3 inches tall and the stems look a little weak, I have a 400w hps about 2 feet from the tops of the plants. So is there any way that they could be strecting or are they just meant to be like this because of the strain.:leaf::leaf::leaf:Rollitup and smoke onnn:leaf::leaf::leaf:

Sounds completley normal after the first true leaves appear you will see little/slow growth at first because the root system is becoming more established. After you have a good root system the growth will continue as long as optimum levels of growth is maintanied. Now you can slowly increase the light intensity as well slowly based on growth..etc etc.

I'm pretty new to all this but I would say yes. 400w is a bit too powerful for a seedling and you have the light so far away - I'm assuming the light is that far away cos of the heat. Try CFL's for the first couple weeks then switch back to ur 400w and keep it about 8-10 inches away.

When mine stretch I cut a straw and wrap it round the stem. It's the easiest way I've found to keep a plant on its feet.

Also, can I flower 6 plants to grow about 2 1/2' under a 400w hps with a decent yeild close to 2oz a plant?​

Yes just let them veg for about two months. Having a 400 w hps is fine for seedlings just keep them 2 feet away until you see them begin to grow at a faster rate . Thats what i have and my clones and seedlings stay at the same distance with no issues if you have a heat issue use an oscilatting fan.

A sativa is going to be taller than a indica so no they arent stretching. I would go with what Beach said though making sure to keep them 2 feet away.... and then kinda let them grow up and not move the light as fast...

As for the 2 oz yeild.....very doable with that I got mine going to 4 foot tall and Im hoping for about 5oz of each.....

my wife and i dont exceed our medical limit..combined i flower 12 total with 1 single 400w hps . it all depends on your technique
