Ato's Grow Journal

I'll be keeping track of my progress here. I'll add pictures when I have some along the way. I don't mind constructive criticism and/or real advice. I also don't mind positive comments, but nothing negative. If you have something negative to say then I don't want to read it so don't even bother. This journal is mainly for me to just keep track of my grow. I work with what I have access (soil, pots, etc.) to so if you notice I'm using something inferior it's most likely because it's all I can get. Feel free to suggest better options as maybe I missed something, but if I don't switch to your option don't criticize me for it.

First Grow 2010-2011

December 1st, 2010
I put 10 seeds on a wet paper towel, set them on a plate, and covered them with a bowel.

December 4th, 2010
7 of the 10 seeds sprouted out a root. I planted them in plastic red cups from Wal-Mart in Miracle Grow Moisture Control Soil and added a little bit of distilled water. I'm using 3 cheap 24" 17W Lights of America Grow Lights for the little seedlings.

The little seedlings have been growing quickly and the cheap lights I'm using are working better than I thought they would. I add a small layer of soil to the cups each time the seedlings get an inch or so taller when I check on them. I don't know if I like the Moisture Control soil as it "controls" the moisture a little too well. I haven't watered them since December 4th, 2010 because the soil is still fairly damp and I don't want to over water them. I'll be on the lookout for some better soil (not much of a selection) before I transplant the seedlings. I also added an 8th seed that sprouted a root. It probably won't grow well since it's this slow already, but oh well.

Not much new to add. My plants are getting taller and I've added more soil. A few of them have fertilizer burn (I think). I need to find better soil, but there's not much for choice around where I live and I don't want to order off the internet. I may check out the few nurseries in my area, but I don't think they sell supplies.

The plants are sprouting multiple leaves now and getting taller. I'll need to transfer them to larger pots here soon.

I transferred the plants out of the cups into 6" pots except one (ran out of soil). I need to work on transplanting. It didn't go so well. Watered them a little bit also.

I purchased Jiffy Organic Soil to try out on the 1 plant that I hadn't transferred yet which I did today. I also bought a large tote to keep the plants in so water and dirt doesn't get on the floor. I also purchased 2 4' 32W Fluorescent lights to hang over them until I get a HPS setup going. Plants are looking good!
