i have 3 ak-47 autos and this is my first attempt to grow autos so i am growing them outdoors i was just asking how many hours of sunlight for the seedling and the weather is good (air & sun) they are in a shade spot and i give them 1 hour of direct sun light (but its very hot here)?????

anything from 18/6 to 24/7 no direct sunlight yet for a couple of weeks
first. its 18/6-24/0. That light regime is fine. No reason to run the lights on 24 hours then off 7 hours...

second. No direct sunlight for a couple of weeks?!?!? I thought it was funny when people said you shouldn't put seedlings under direct sunlight. Now you just said dont put them under direct sunlight for a couple of weeks? I thought this was even funnier.

do you think that these plants in the wild are lucky enough to always sprout in shade? and if they do sprout in shade, they stretch to the light... Not saying putting newly sprouted seedling under good t5 bulbs for a week then under direct sunlight is a bad idea, that is probably a better idea than putting them in direct sunlight right from the get go. if you dont have t5s or some good cfls, dont put them in the shade they will stretch... and dont leave them under the cfls for any longer than a week.

sorry should have explained 24/7 is 24 hours 7 days a week (which is a common phrase)

direct sunlight is far stronger than a hps you clearly have not grown outdoor before seedling need around 500-800 lumens for the first week not over 10000+

in the wild forest canopy and under growth would normally protect them

stretch come in later veg stages due to lack on constant light outdoors (after week 1-2)

try watching the weeden videos on subcools channel

lol never grown outdoors?!?! look at my signature bro...

you have never grown before ever... I know this cuz you said seedlings dont stretch and I know every grower starting out has had a stretched out seedling once before...
seedlings dont stretch!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! LOL take a look at this bro https://www.google.com/search?q=stretched+seedling&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=OFPXUOvlKofniwL_6wE&biw=1920&bih=1066&sei=O1PXULvGF67oiwKZkIGwCg

I have vegged outdoors under full sun in april bro... I have vegged under a MH... (not a hps...) I have vegged under cfls... unless it is like 90+ degrees outside or you are trying to root a new clone IT DOESNT MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE!

i have over 15 year worth of grow exp
i also have a current grow live on here so dont be a bell and do some research as "you know" squat
i quoted those figures from memory from one of eds books
seedlings stretch yes but they dont require much extra light to stop it full sun will cook them fact coupled with the fact the op is from a hot country

I will repeat what I said earlier. It doesnt matter as long as it is not over 90 degrees outside. Im not saying plants dont grow faster under low watt lights in the seedling stage. I was merely arguing your point about leaving them under low watt lights for a couple weeks. If you reread everything I wrote you will understand what point I am trying to make. I do not like to follow what other growers say... My preference is trial and error. I have tried all the methods of lighting for the seedling stage, and I can 100% say, it hardly makes a difference. You can say whatever you like, I could careless. I am done arguing, this is pointless.

My one question is... If you have 15 years of grow experience... what leads you to a site like this? Just to educate all the growers on here?

when i first started growing i beleived to much light would hurt a seedling, but after years of doing this,i have NEVER been able to provide enough light to a seedling for it to be 'to strong' and i run over 10k lumens per sq ft...with a hps..to each his own though, best of luck OP

yes its called giving back to the community
I do learn some thing every now and then which makes it worth while. Im also a test grower so i have to keep diarys to receive my free test genetics
all i said to the op is no direct sunlight for the first couple of week so they harden off

funny ive killed full established veg plants in my early days with a hps

how?...i have had plants 2 inches away from a 600 and only thing that happens is the top becomes light bleached, they sureley do not die though..

Get em both aknight lmao. All i can say is the guy who started it straight up dipped. In seriousness though.. will a 400 mh bulb 4 ft up or a t5 close up be better for seedlings that are going to be vegged for outdoors. If t5 how long before i go metal halide?

agito dipped because he was wrong and he didnt really have 15 years of grow experience neither have I though haha. I keep both my 400 watt MH reflectors 16-24 inches away from the seedlings at all times. with my temp gauge right where the tops of the plants are. stays about 76 at all times until lights off. I used to use florescent tubes until I realized seedlings grow faster under stronger lighting.

thanks for settling the debate aknight

because i dont have time to instantly reply to old threads dont make assumptions. I went from a cfl to a hps and the didnt light bleach they scorched pretty badly (more direct heat from bulb than light levels as the plants where not used to it). they where far closer than 4ft.

of course hid is safe for seedlings if you start them far enough away
you would start seedlings under a 400w hps at around 2ft not 4ft then work them closer say 1" per day until around 9k for flower. 4-5k is plenty for veg. some plants like higher lumens such as sats but indica may like a touch lower and hybrids in the middle but this will depend on ambient temps as well

the debate was on direct sunlight which is over 10k your still acting like a bell and moving the goal posts
